This one makes me sad. We had to put a step stool in front of Paddy the Wonder Cat’s eating area in his last few years. Couldn’t have his food on the ground thanks to Mr. Skippy. It was sad as he was losing his jumping abilities. When you are 17 and a kitty, these things happen. Sniff…
we feed our cats atop a chest freezer so the dogs don’t eat cat food. when one cat hit old age i built two steps beside it so the old man can get up there in three hops.
My Spotty dog, slipped on some ice and has a limp now. We went for a ride yesterday and he could NOT get in the car;legs splayed out and under the car,I caught him and lifted him into the back seat.sigh. :( Peace.
Ludwig is lucky to be alive. If this were a Lynn Johnston strip, Ludwig would have died years ago; only to be resurrected as part of some creepy post-divorce reboot.
I wonder whether Luddie is going to stay old in this strip, or whether this is a one-time gag. Guess time’ll tell. Meanwhile, I can feel for the cat – I’m staving off using a walker till I begin toppling over regularly (familial nerve condition).
I’ve got one of those. She isn’t old, just a klutz. She periodically falls out of the windowsill onto my head. That will get the old heart pumping at 3 am.
Our cat is of indeterminate age (he was a stray) but can no longer jump from the floor to the bathroom counter to drive from the spigot. He jumps to the toilet seat and then up.
We got doggy steps for our, bigger than he’s suppose to be, mid sized dog a few years before he crossed the rainbow bridge. When we set it up, we realized it was too small and not sturdy enough for him. It was getting hard for us to lift him up because he was so big. (Nothing to do with us getting old and weak. That’s my story…) The cats all love it though, so it’s still there.
Yes! Why wouldLuddie get old when Arlo and Janis don’t? The aging of pets is a cruel reminder that we do, too. We’ve been lucky to have our current kitty for 18 years, but she’s on thyroid meds and eats special renal diet food. She’s happy and that’s what matters. We’ve been through a lot together.

Unfortunately Luddie is getting old. He’s gone from jumping on the bed, to climbing up the covers, to needing a step. It doesn’t mean he’s ever going to leave. At least as long as Arlo still has blond hair and a non-receding hairline that is.

I love his tail in the second frame. My kitty does that all the time.

I have also done this for my older kitties. I buy doggie stairs with removable, washable covers. My cats love them by their favorite spots!

Sheila, when you get old and can’t leap twice your height anymore, you’ll understand.

I don’t want Luddie to get old, EVER!! He’s a cartoon cat, so he doesn’t have to! So I hope it’s “a one-time gag,” as Gokie5 wrote.
