Wow, Snoopy, I’m surprised at your double play there! Now he knows what CB goes through and feels like. All the players should take turns being the team manager. In fact, all heads of anything should walk a mile in the shoes of those they oversee.
Snoopy couldn’t do that nowadays. The players union would file a grievance…of course, they’d file a grievance if a manager told a player in the dugout to put his Wall Street Journal down and grab a bat because he’s on deck.
The opposing batters (when they weren’t undressing Charlie Brown with line drives) perfected a technique of lofting fly balls that landed (usually within a foot of Lucy) and stuck to the outfield grass without bouncing. This always seemed to be highly suspicious to me………
If I were to guess, I’d say the manager Sparky had in mind for Snoopy to imitate was “Leo the Lip” Derocher. This strip first appeared in March, 1968. “Nice guys finish last!”

Now, Snoopy, you see how the round-headed kid feels when he’s the team’s manager (except he doesn’t kick the girls’ patooties).

btw the classic lineup was always Charlie Brown (p), Schroeder ©, Shermy (1b), Linus (2b) Snoopy (ss) and Violet, Frieda, and Lucy in the outfield. (Lucy moved from center field to right for all the later strips.) I’ve been re-reading the 1957-1958 Complete Peanuts, and Charlie Brown was the catcher at times, Linus played center fielder at times, Shermy even pitched a few times. These were probably intra-squad games, though, but it isn’t really clear.

When will CB start learning from his dog and succeed?

Maybe they should be playing squash! I understand kicking, brawling, and punching are pretty common during a game…
