Open carry just ensures that you’re the first target. Concealed carry makes the bad guys unsure who has the guns.

@Common ‘taterI hadn’t thought about it but you are right… it is a regional term. Here in Arizona open carry is common except in restricted buildings. LobosSolos has it backward – bad guys are looking for soft targets, not shootouts. The best way to win a gunfight is to discourage it. (Grew up where police presence was spotty.)

And tyrants never like armed citizens or people pushing passion.Too hard to control.

I remember the old days when open carry meant driving your car with a beer in one hand and the steering wheel in the other. That would not be a part of “The Good Old Days”.

A classic Don Martin cartoon, set in an airplane: All at once, all of the passengers stand up, point their weapons, and yell, “This is a hijack!” Then a silent panel where they’re all looking at each other. Then, sheepishly, they all sit back down.

The gunfight at the OK corral was a dispute over open carry. In the “wild west” many towns like Tombstone and Dodge City banned citizens carrying firearms within city limits.

Just moved to Nevada, which is an “Open Carry” state. It is very disconcerting. I suspect it is a vestige of the wild west. People walking around with guns on their hips. Waiting for the shootout, I guess..On the other hand, and very strangely, I can’t carry my spring assisted EMT knife (the one with the seat belt cutter and glass breaker). Those are illegal…. go figger… I think i’ll be getting involved in politics now that I’m retired. I know I can’t change anything, but it’s fun trying.

Nope. I’m a staunch liberal. The only time I go to Starbuck’s is on service calls. I do like coffee, but never cared for their products. So I’m just a lost liberal, wandering around in the desert with no place to call home. Perhaps there is someone on the right who will tell me where to go.Oh, wait…. never mind.

Actually, I think the cartoon is supposed to be about the approaching holiday – St Valentines Day.

It’s that moment of hesitation while you’re telegraphing your intentions, but doing nothing positive, that’s dangerous.

It hasn’t been that long ago that gun racks in pickups had legally loaded guns…In rural areas of AZ that meant “Fast Food”..or..“Takeout”..Local law enforcement used to understand that..sigh..sometimes they still do..
