Not the first time that Pab doesn’t know what he is talking about. To him, liberals good, conservatives bad, no matter what. And I’m sure that he is tickled pink with his forthcoming “free” health care.

Another “Straw man” fallacy that the Republicans like to use. The truth is that the Republicans have been such disgusting crybabies since they were democratically voted out of power that they will tell any lie that is convenient. They don’t care if it hurts the country or not. Any political organization that resorts to spitting and using racial insults against formal civil rights leaders (and I have seen it on MSNBC at least 15 times) is reserved for the bigots and morons.

EDCOLE Who did you see spit and use racial insults? How did you identify them as card carrying evil Republicans? Did MSNBC tell you that 16 times? Why it must be true if MSNBC says so. They don’t have an unbiased oops I mean biased bone in their network.

What party ruled the South during Jim Crow days? Wasn’t the party that freed the slaves? One of those parties are the bigots and morons you speak of. One last question: What party started a war in SE Asia, then spit on me and called me baby killer?

Lewreader, that doesn’t sound like you. Anyway, regarding the Tea Partiers, yes, I have seen them do those things.

Regarding the parties, yes, the Republicans of old were the ones who freed the slaves, and yes Democrats of old (and Dixiecrats of more recent memory) were those who fought to uphold discrimination. But as you know, somewhere between FDR and JFK, those parties switched roles.

And actually, I think the first US troops went to Vietnam under Ike.

Hilarious, pab (about Fuzzy Bunny time.) Speaking as a canadian who has been watching current American politics with some dismay, I’m surprised that so many of the intelligent, kind-hearted, generous and generally tolerant American people are allowing their politics to be hijacked by shrill, even hysterical, divisive voices who (as far as I can tell) are interested in promoting, not their viewpoint, but themselves. And I’m not talking about any particular party - republicans, democrats, tea-partiers, but many of the talking heads who promote their various policies - can’t anybody see that the talking heads are only interested in themselves? The bigger the soundbite, the more likely they’ll get more exposure - maybe even their own talk show! Wake up, people - take a deep breath, and ignore the fear-mongers! Talk to each other!

Because Senator Leland Yee questioned Sarah Palin’s speaking fees at a local university, he was subjected to the most vile homophobic, racist, and hateful speech he had ever seen or heard. He has the voicetapes, emails and letters to prove it, too.

Thank you Pab for speaking the truth about the nature and designs of the Tea Party.

LOL “Fuzzy Bunnies”! I’ve been enjoying the story line this week. Love the “circus/county fair” in the background too. It’s been quite the circus going cross country with their “Dog & Pony Show”.

Maybe now that “tax season” is over, “News” broadcasters will focus on Real News.

Lyndon Johnson managed to get the Civil Rights bill passed at the expense of losing the support of the Dixiecrats. Those Dixiecrats promptly became the right-wing Republicans of today.

Strom Thurmond, one the most vile of the segregationists, is a prime example of this switch.

Until Johnson sacrificed support of the south to the moral imperative of civil rights reform, northern Democrats chose to live in constrained peace with their racist Southern brothers.

Then Johnson’s moral courage, was marred by his hubris induced intransigence over Vietnam, and the loss of South allowed the Republicans to win the presidency.

Nixon did not learn from Johnson’s tragic mistakes. He should have ended things far sooner than he did.

LBJ also said that by passing the civil rights bill he was ensuring that “those N’s will be voting Democratic for the next 200 years”.

The faith people place in Big Brother amazes me.

It’s true that the Republican party used to be the good party and the Democrats were the bad party. The Republicans lost their way after Teddy Roosevelt, culminating in the disasterous pro-business policies of those who followed and ending with Hoover and the Great Depression. It was Nixon’s so-called Southern Strategy that wooed the racist Democrats of the South to the Republican fold. This continues today as there are still racists everywhere but most of them are Republicans. Certainly not all Republicans and certainly not all Tea Baggers, but enough to be seen and heard. The challenge for the Republicans today is to show that they can govern and that they are not a party of dinosaurs, that is, social conservatives, libertarians, and other extremists. Hopefully, the Republicans can find a way to get back to their roots and become a meaningful presence again. Abraham Lincoln would not be welcome in the Republican Party as it is today. That must change if they are to survive as a viable party for the future.

These strips have been entertaining and insightful. Social conservatives are very much like Islamic conservatives overseas.

It is true that he disliked, maybe, hated Martin Luther King and felt betrayed when King opposed the war. This was part of his tragic hubris.

True tea party folks are neither conservative or liberal, they are independents. RWmoron, where do you get such crazy ideas about the president? He’s just a middle of the road Democratic president. Conservatives always freak out when a Democrat wins. Same thing happened under Clinton. And instead of saying they disagree with the policies, they attack the character of people they disagree with. Now things did get a little bit rough for Bush, but after 911 he had support of all Americans. It wasn’t until he ignored the people who attacked us, (because the neocons and Bush had made up their mind to go into Iraq before it even happened, and made up half a dozen reasons why they did. They even campaigned on the idea in the 2000 election)” that people started questioning his policies. Going into Iraq was so obviously stupid, it made a lot of people think he was not very bright. That, and he could not put a coherent sentence together. Not changing policies as a result of 911 spit on the graves of all those who died that day. I personally will never forget or forgive the dishonor that administration heaped upon those poor Americans and their families.
