Nice to see Blowtop has SOME scruples…..maybe old age and that stretch in THE BIG HOUSE cooled his desire for revenge against Tracy. Or maybe he just doesn’t see kids as pawns in such vengeance schemes….

You knew we were going to cut away from Vitamin and Kandikane, didn’t you? At least we’re not cutting away to something irrelevant.

It’s a good thing that Trey has criminals sticking up for him. If it weren’t for Blowtop and Sprocket, he’d be in trouble.

Cutting away from dramatic action in juxtaposition to related events elsewhere is a technique used frequently in TV shows. Consider how many programs break for a commercial just at a peak point in the action only to return from the commercial with a different scene only to reveal the resolution of the action later in the program. This type of storytelling holds interest and builds tension. Congratulations, Mike on a great story arc.

Another Harvey Award nomination coming soon?

I have to agree that this has been a very riveting story, and is certainly a good candidate for another Harvey nomination. I think it was split between years, but it’s been especially good this year, which falls under the 2016 Harvey award.

The next nominations, due probably around the first week of May, will be for work published in 2014. That will include the first Nitrate Siblings story, the Tabby Angus story, the Annie rescue story, and the Gruesome story. Abner Kadaver’s concrete trap carried over for a few days on 2014 and the Gruesome story concluded a few days into 2015.

EXACTLY, Puzz! About the only surgery they practice in a hospital basement is by the coroner or a Med. School Lab. Ever seen a cadaver after the coroner finishes up? Or a young aspiring medical student finishes? Not a whole lot left!

Another Harvey Award nomination coming soon? This is the first comic strip or book’s story line that has me on the edge of my seat since Tess and Tracy were trapped in that flooding basement! Interesting how it was DT also. When was that, about 1970? Man this is just too good. So disappointed with the Nitrates, I cannot believe how emotionally involved I am with this arc. Probably because of the high school crush I had on a girl that looked like Sprocket. Maybe I should tell my doc tomorrow!____________________

There’s definitely something about he way this particular story has come together which elicits strong feelings.

In soaps, this is referred to as an “umbrella” arc, because a large number of characters fall beneath it.

    Mrs. Flattop

    Blowtop

    The Nitrates

    Vitamin

    Kandi

… not to mention the M.C.U.

Quite the eclectic mix of characters.

And perhaps even more to come.

Oh, pleeeease start a couple of new threads, and check up on Dick’s grandson, and L’il Attitude, and have a new Blackhearts adventure, and maybe a couple more things, before you go back to showing what happens with KandiKane and the Nitrates. I love suspense, and the longer, the better…..plus it makes the story longer, too! Maybe tell us………next year?

Actually, I think Tracy policy over the years has been to allow the kids to grow up while the adult characters remain young enough to be vigorous and active.

Don’t quote me on this, but think I’d heard somewhere that Joe Staton would place Tracy’s age at about 52 – a bit tight – but …

If Junior was 10 when Tracy adopted him, add 10 years to get to Junior’s marriage to Moon Maid, then 12 more years to get to Honeymoon’s current age, that would mean Tracy was about 30 when he and Junior first crossed paths, and that Junior is now about 32.

Things get a whole lot messier when doing similar math for Sparkle, Bonnie Braids, Jewel, and particularly Joe Tracy – who I think Mike & Joe de-aged a few years, Reverse SORAS in that case.

The numbers can be rationally crunched for any one of these characters, it’s taken en masse that things occasionally become convoluted and contradictory.

(Pardon the musings, it’s been a slow posting day.)
