Varnes: The BBC? Right, the last thing we need is a government control television station….There ALREADY is ABC, CBS, NBC, oh and CNN. The most trusted news source in America is the only one NOT controlled by the White House – FOX.

Okay, watched seven minutes of AlJazeera the other day, followed by 1/2 hour of CBS, ABC, NBC. AJA covered stories from five countries having “problems” plus started their sports coverage of Basketball in the U.S. and cricket- not U.S.. The networks spent 20 of their 22 minutes of “news” talking about weather on the east coast, and some time on “emailgate”, and someone rescuing a dog…

When the Oregonian stopped home delivery in my area, then went to no access, it was a sign of the failed “new manaement”, as it wasn’t missed. Now you have to get a mail subscription and get it two days later. Have heard that many old style newspapers around the country have done the same. And yes, the new publisher did take a very hard turn to the right.

AJA also has journalists who can actually pronounce the names of the people and countries they’re covering, and actually know where their located, and they still put REAL reporters out in the field to cover stories. It is called journalism.

BTW; the barkeep wouldn’t need the paper, he gets more information from and gives more advice to, his patrons, without reading it in the papers.

@ Varnes: You are aware, are you not, that we already have two Government run things like the BBC? They’re called the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), and National Public Radio. (NPR)

Goweeder, sometimes it’s like some news channels believe that if you keep showing people saying things that are obviously false, the massive repetition of those clips will make it true…They actually believe that? No. They are manipulators…They are just havin’ fun for profit…

Sadly, the major news anchors have always been puppets. Too bad most members of the public couldn’t see that. I think people “trusted” Cronkite only because he looked like their grandfather. I call that the “nation’s grandfather” look. Reagan had it too, and it certainly worked to his advantage.
