I would say that this is like a record with a needle stuck in the groove, playing the same note over and over again, except very few people would understand what Iām trying to say.-So I think Iāll try to catch a few zzzs. Night, allā¦.

āYou wrote this same story last summer, Evans,ā¦."^Believe it or not, itās been 2 or 3 summers ago, for that oneā¦

@argythree:
āI would say that this is like a record with a needle stuck in the groove,ā¦ā^Cāmon, Argy! Keep up with the times! Donātcha mean an 8Track player with a stuck repeat button? Noā¦wait, I mean, a CD with a scratch that keeps skipping? Noā¦That is, a Laserdiscā¢ player withā¦no, thatās not itā¦.

It looks like four rights make aā¦well, you know.
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
But you know, now that I think about it, youāre still on to something. Thereās that repeating theme of Luann and Quill!ās usual arguments over the same thing (time spent together)ā¦ ā And they did do a āsummer drama internshipā for last year,(when somehow they manage to both get involved in Quill!ās production meeting, last year)ā¦so this is in that sense, a repeatā¦.

Iām starting to agree with ReallyBad2ās daily comments. Why is the main focus of todayās strip on the fact she hasnāt told her parents? This is a pretty minor issue regarding the trip, and it really doesnāt need a whole week devoted to it. -If Luann has the funds and motivation, she should go, and her parents input only goes as far as thatā¦input, not permission. - The question is, why is Luann going? That should be the main focus/punch line of the strip. She may find her passion in New York (or at least this is what I suspect) but itās getting kind of tiring to watch Lu be Quillās tag along.-Iām not saying the NY trip is a bad plot deviceāit may be the most entertaining story line weāve seen in a while (imagine them running into Aaron Hill), but as aforementioned, the focus here is really in the wrong place.-Lu, what are you doing with your life? Do you have money for this trip? Please donāt pull a Gunther, and waste time and savings just to travel with your boyfriend. - WAIT ā what if Evans is planning a similar break up route for Luann and Quill, as was seen with Rosa and Gunther?!? And then Luann comes home, bonds w/ G over their mutual idiocy, and realizes heās been her soul mate all along?-Oh, no. shivers
Sisyphos almost 10 years ago
Okay. So itās clear that Luann (and Quill!) have not really made any plans at all. So far, there is a hope and a wish and nothing more. Maybe Berniceās Reality Check will prove useful in spurring the kids to do some real planning and maybe even make this dream come true!

luann should be an adult by now, she does not need her parentās permission to go on a trip

murphraven almost 10 years ago
Last I checked, Luann was 18 and didnāt need her parentsā permission to go on a trip to New York.
thebigboot almost 10 years ago
To those who keep bringing up Luann is 18, her parents canāt stop her I feel there is one main issue. Money. Not even counting getting there New York City is expensive so how wol she pay for it.
KTB almost 10 years ago
Luann is 18 and in college now, she no longer needs her parentsā permission.

If she is 18?? It donāt matter what her parents think.
Dour Scotsman almost 10 years ago
She is 18, parents donāt get to say no anymore. If she could join the army without permission she sure as heck doesnāt need it to go to NYC
Deezlebird almost 10 years ago
Luann still lives at her parentsā house and they are paying for her college. Their house, their rules. The fact that at 18 many teenagers have already slept together is immaterial. I doubt she has the kind of money you would need for such a trip. And her folks may wind up saying āOK, go, but look for a place to live and a job when you come back.ā Not that I see that happening.
I actually hope she winds up designing sets, which is apparently what she has a talent for. Maybe this will open up some doors for her.

RB2, I do see your point about finances. I have made my own decision about how to view the expenses for Peru in regards to Gunther. To resolve the story in a somewhat realistic fashion, I am assuming (telling myself) that Rosa ended up footing the bill for the plane travel, and that the hotel they stayed at was a āperkā they both enjoyed (well, Rosa utilized at least, not that she enjoyed it) while working in the telephone answering cubicles of her uncleās massive plastic surgery empire. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Speaking of Guntherā¦ I hope that the next time we see him, Greg has decided to move past the grumpy, rather annoying Gunther who is focused on Mr. Grey (I almost called him Mr. Green as he looked a lot like āMr. Greenā as portrayed on the early 70ās versions of the game āClueā). I would like to see Gunther make some sort of educational decision(s) for himself and maybe land a summer job working in a professorās lab as a work/study student. I think that could open up some fun possibilities for his characterās development.

William Loster makes some good points. The key thing is that Luann is an adult, and she should be making her own decisions. If she can fund her own trip, then her parents can only give input, not permission. If she needs them to fund it, then they can certainly say no. Or she could borrow from TJā¦.

OH, FOR HEAVENāS SAKE! ITāS A COMIC STRIP, PEOPLE! SHEESH!! (I sometimes wonder why some of you even read it).
locake almost 10 years ago
The parents get a big say if Luann is expecting them to pay for any of her trip to NY. The parents are probably paying for most of her college and living expenses, so No, Luann is not independent.
whiteaj almost 10 years ago
So Luann is in college but is not old enough ā 18 I presume ā to make such decisions herself. Hm. Prodigy I suppose.

Why does Luann need her parentās permission? She graduated high school and is now an adult. Have she forgotten that?
1148559 almost 10 years ago
Well, she is 18+ so technically, she does not need her parentās permissionā¦ unless she expects them to pay for the trip.

Sheās assuming the Qāster will get in and make it big !! Isnāt that a big IF ??
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
Thatās a good one! But perhaps there isnāt anything for Lu to have misunderstood, yet. Though it is a bit of a ājumping the gunā, and āwriting checks before checking her balanceā. Perhaps there could be a yes from her parents, but the fact that in her mind sheās already there, before ādoing her homeworkā seems more of a āpresumptionā at this point, than a āmisunderstandingāā¦.
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
āThis is strictly my opinion, but in looking at the definition above, she is batting about .250ā¦ā^I realize Iām not āprofessional endorsementā, and I have a similar thought, but Iād say thatās a good assessmentā¦
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
Another āpieceā of this conversation about ā18ā is that āage oldā debate about compulsory service age or privilege (such as driverās license) which is 18, vs. ālegal drinking ageā (21). Thereās also the age of consent for marriage, and other situations. Being 18 means not being considered a āminorā anymore, but in many ways, it has also been deemed as not yet āfitā for certain legal privileges. ā Being 18 may allow one to have some freedom, but as the song goes, āfreedom isnāt always freeāā¦.

I wonder if team Evans learned that they just raised the subway and bus fare to $2.75. She and Quill will have to learn about the Metro Card. And about the hustlers that will try to get their money or worse. Come to think about it, this could be educational tool for people coming to New York City. I am a native New Yawker.
Jim Kerner almost 10 years ago
Really? I thought that she was 18.

My son is 25 and before he moved out a few weeks ago, he asked our permission. He knew he had the right to move out at any time after he turned 18, but he didnāt because he knew we might not continue to pay for his cell phone, car payment, car insurance, schooling, etc, etc, etc.
