It appears Luann is still stuck on Z. (Wake up, missy!)

I did not know all this about the ampersand but I do know it looks a lot like a pretzel…

I think counting backeards from 26 would be more realistic.

I’ve never been able to say the alphabet backwards. I always have to stop and say it forwards to remember which letter comes next. This would not relax me at all.

When I was four years old and had my tonsils out, they gave me the knockout juice and told me to count backwards from one hundred, by sevens. Even at that age I knew before I started that it wasn’t going to come out right.

This demonstrates the flaw in Dez’s meditative approach to problem-solving. Some people, such as Luann and I, would be more likely to doze off than to complete such a soporific exercise [oxymoron alert!] as Dez has initiated….

Luann has gone to a higher plane of celestial being, becoming in tune with the harmony of the spheres, expanding her consciousness outwards in – oh hell, she’s only sleeping

So was Dez trying to make Luann concentrate… or hypnotize her? If the latter, I think she succeeded.

Z-Y-X-W-V-U-T, it’s as easy as 1-2-3, S-R-Q-P-O-N-M sing it fast and baffle them. L-J-K-I-H, G-F-E-D-C-B-A. Just reverse those memories, sing the backwards X-Y-Zs.

This strip confirms my suspicion that Evans has lost interest in the character of Luann. Guess I’ll just drop in from time to time to see whether Brad and Toni ever get married, but I give up on this ’toon, pretty much…

“Alphabet Corner” was really interesting, Brdsplsh (I do wish you had a different screen name). When I was around five, my parents gave me a child-size easel with a blackboard on it, and an alphabet at the top with “&” at the end. They told me that ‘&" meant “and,” so I learned the alphabet and would recite it, ending “X, Y, Z, and.” (I had already learned the letters by asking Mom what was on my blocks.) I didn’t realize that I was participating in History to that extent!

I can agree with folks that this week is a bit “different”…. but, it REALLY isn’t that all far-fetched from what I recall from my undergraduate days. There were all manner of traditional behaviors, non-traditional behaviors, and esoterica going on in and about the dormitories. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Being a kid from a small, rather rural, lower-middle class blue collar community that was pretty straight laced….. the first year in the dorm for me was rather shocking and sometimes a bit scary, and there were often times where I wasn’t sure I fit in or belonged there. But, and here’s the thing… the exposures and experiences STRETCHED ME and caused me to grow. It took a while, but, I figured things out and even had a lot of fun after a while…. and even participated in things I never thought in my wildest imagination prior to college. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++So, the three of them doing some “new-agey” stuff and meditating….. IMHO is not far-fetched at all.

She (Dez) also showed that Luann isn’t very good at staying focused. It takes some focus to say the alphabet backwards slowly letter by letter (even with your eyes closed). Luann wore out presumably after the letter Z. It also takes focus to do the things that will impact the direction of one’s life. Maybe Dez, as a new friend, can help Luann in that area, i.e. help her decide where she wants to go in life. Luann liked (loved) Dez initially… but that was because Dez was open to her going to NYC w/ Quill. But will she still like and listen to Dez if this new agey predictive tool doesn’t work out? In some ways, Dez is pretty ingenious in that she is invoking a trick to let Luann come to her own decision and in the process make her think about what kinds of influences she allows into her decision making.

We have lost Delta & Rosa. We seem missing anything new about Crystal & Knute. Both Gunther and Bernice seem increasingly unattractive personalities. The two nameless guys in the art class don’t seem likely to become major characters. All we have promising is the group at Mooney — and Dez seems key to that crowd.

“Well, we still have Brad and Toni. . . .”______________.Yes. But not much personal dynamics there. If Dirk is to remain gone, at least Jonah couldprovide some drama. But he seems gone..There is no villain anymore. Tiff is harmless. Dirk gone. Les gone. Ann Eifel AWOL..The art teacher is too clueless to count..So maybe the NY trip . . . . ? ? ?
