Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for May 22, 2015
Transcript:
Principal Purgus: "Think about my offer and let me know, ok?" Luann: "I will. And thank you SO much!" Luann: "Oh- Tiffany said she's going to be a "systems facilitator"?" Principal Purgus: "Ah. Yes. She'll help the office staff. I hope she enjoys filing" Luann: "She does. Have you noticed her nails?"

So the office staff are (according to Tiffany) going to get mani- and pedicures?
SactoSylvia almost 10 years ago
I wonder if Tiffany will even stick around when she realized her transfer involves filing. I guess Iâm not sure why Tiffany is working there in the first place â ???

Uh, I think Luann was trying to be funny. Like most wanna be comedians, she should stick with her day job. Whatever that isâŠ
alviebird almost 10 years ago
One never knows. Tiffany just might like this job. At least she gets away from the children.

Tiffany can acquire experience as an office manager and then use that experience to work for a small movie or TV production company (such as one that shoots commercials or industrial films). Small companies like that assign multiple tasks to people, so she could soon be in front of the cameras, as is her dream (even if as an extra, at first).
JayBluE almost 10 years ago
Meant to say âIâve assisted in there, and also Iâve heard some stories⊠and have seen some of the âvaultsâ of paperworkââŠâ Also, from my own work experience in both the Govt. and âPrivateâ sectorsâŠ..

You know, I feel the Evanses should take notice that a lot of âLuannâ fans have become more sympathetic towards Tiffany. If this forum is anything to go by, anyway. Do the writers really want to continue with this tired old Tiffany bashing? Or will there be a confrontation between these girls? Will they maybe break down barriers and talk about salamander mating rituals? Nah, probably not!

I really dislike this principal. His gossiping with Luann is unprofessional and not funny. Luannâs snarking is so casual and unprovoked in the third panel it makes her seem so small and immature.
As an aside I notice in the strip that IamJayBluE shared with us that genius teacher Luann looks just as detached and unconcerned with the little kids blood geyser as Tff. Look at this strip. Tiffany actually praises Luann in the first panel. Tiffany is actually honest and admits why she is taking the job. No spin, no snark, just honesty. To Luannâs credit, she is not digging at Tiffany even given the opportunity, in fact she has real advice for Tiff, âact like you like kidsâ is a fair solution. I like this strip more than tonights, which is mean for no reason.

Todayâs Luann comic strip was almost a little bit funny. When can we expect Luann to make a decision? This Saturday or a few weeks from now? And will she decide to give up a fantastic experience in NYC for a job? A normal person would go to New York.
Kim Roberts almost 10 years ago
@ howtheduck
Permanent files (paper copy) are kept in the vault. Someone is responsible for printing out electronic files and filing them. Mr. Evans is a former public school teacher and is well aware of this.

I would think Luannâs deliberations on what to do this summer wonât take long, once she tells Frank: âYouâll be OK with paying all my tuition and expenses next year because I wonât be working this summer, right? I want to go to NYC with Quill instead!â

It might be a good thing to note how the comic is named âLuann.â That might give you an idea who the heroine will be.

Please no. Why would she do that?
Because itâs one of the ways to antagonize Luann, especially since Lu is probably pulling her hair out over this decision. And anytime Tiff and Lu âgo at it,â itâs excellent dinner theater! Tiff might think she owes Lu one for besting her in " Big Chinâs" eyesâŠ
She has shown zero [interest] in Quill ever since he FINALLY let her know he was takenâŠ
She doesnât have to. All she has to do is attempt to flirt with Quill in front of Lu, and that should set Lu off. Doesnât matter if Tiff or Q have any interest in one another. Her target is Lu, and getting under Luâs skin.

> Iâm sure Greg and Karen are working on a âmurder a hoboâ storyline as we speak.>Thatâs the next assignment in Mr. Zebuâs art class. Of course, Bernice will have to come over and help. At least with her astounding set-design talent, Luann will lay out the body in an arrangement that will be praised by everyone else in the strip, convincing Luann that she has a great future ahead of her as a serial killer.
TORAD_07 almost 10 years ago
Except it wonât work. Quill has no interest in Tiffany. It wouldnât create any drama because Quill/Luann are too solid. It would just serve to make Tiffany pathetic, and the majority of us appear to be tired of those jokes. Letâs do something different.
It doesnât have to work on Quill. It only has to work on Lu⊠And I think it will. All Tiff has to do is flirt with Quill in front of Lu, or tell Lu she flirted with him. That will be sufficient.

âWhatâs Luannâs excuse for being a horrible person?â.Isnât that rather strong simply for making a catty joke? It has long been clear that Luann and Tiff canât stand one another.

I want Luann to really think about this, I hope she doesnât choose Quill over her future. I mean, I love Quill (heâs like the best guy she ever dated) but this is her future weâre talking about

when Luann starts looking to insult Tiffany behind her back shows how unlikeable Luann can really be. . . . â "-ââââââLuann has always been shown to have failings. You can all make a long list of them..Bernice has retained her failings, too. Much like Luann, but with more sarcasm..HOWEVER, Brad has largely reformed, no longer lazy or quite as sloppy. Gunther has gotten worse, far shyer than before, momma-centered, prone to anger, etc. .Tiffany seems to have improved some, no longer a pure villainess. .Quill is cut out of cardboard.

You donât have to use the word, to make the accusation.
flowergirl19 almost 10 years ago
Itâs really not so much that someone should âlikeâ the job of filing papers. Who likes to file? Itâs like cleaning the bathroom, nobody likes to do it (except Knute I guess), it just has to be done. I donât like filing but I happen to be very good at it. Letâs hope that Tiffany turns out to be a conscientious worker because filing is a meticulous job and if not done properly can have serious consequences. I mean, organizing an event is not the same as being an office clerk.
flowergirl19 almost 10 years ago
âWhere does that âScoonzâ get off coming here and dumping that vitriol?â
Right? I was quite taken aback when I read that comment about you. Iâve never seen you to be offensive. Maybe itâs that person who is impersonating you on ArcaMax. I wouldnât be surprised if that was DW.
wiselad almost 10 years ago
some people canât take in by indirect reference that Luann is good with the kids even thought the principal SAID SO unless they show for 1 or 2 weeks specifically showing her being good teacher, (they go by ânot shown, not happeningâ which is why they say Brad is still virgin as implied is not proof) with no Lue/Tiff drama while a supervisor observes and at end of that storyline that supervisor/observer says âLuann, you are a great teacherâ âŠâŠâŠâŠ and Quill is not a cardboard as some say, he is sometimes a little nasty with his banter, and he was forced to be direct with Tiff as she never took the hint, as both Tiff/Luann had always being in the past âTiff tries to steal what I try to get/ letâs have fun with Luann so she would not see herself as my equalâ symbiosis with both jealous of the other

No Luann is not 9 Chickweed Lane. How McEldowney gets away with some pretty hard PG-13 content in print newspapers is a mystery to me. Not complaining just wondering.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Weâve never seen the principal observing Luann or Tiffany. How do we know that heâs any good at his job? He could be forming his opinion of Tiffâs and Luâs skills strictly based on second-hand reports, just as you want us to do.
flowergirl19 almost 10 years ago
My thoughts too. Well, youâre definitely a mensch in my opinion :)
wiselad almost 10 years ago
if ANYTHING, it was shown that despite Tiffanyâs lack of knowing what to do in case of a kid having a nosebleed, or a girl crying because of a bruised knee, or heaven forbid, a kid asked an elementary school academic question, she managed to be liked by the kids for things NOT HAVING TO DO with being a teacher, and we already knew what skills Luann has by her talk with Bernice and by seeing her at the library and we already sen her as a babysitter too
flowergirl19 almost 10 years ago
âUntil now it appeared that Tiffany was the better teacher based on what was shown.â
Actually, on the surface this statement seems to be true. However, we know that according to Tiffany herself sheâs not good with kids, but Luann is a natural. Therefore, we can infer that Luann is better with the kids than Tiffany is. Evans doesnât need to constantly show us Luann is good or better with the kids because we already know this from her past experience at the library too. In addition, Luannâs boss states that Luann is so good with the kids that he offers her a teaching job. Of course, Tiffany wasnât awful with the kids, and she certainly had her moments with them, which is what was shown.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Remember, neither Tiffany nor Luann is a teacher here. This is an after-school day-care program, so Tiffany is correct that it is basically baby-sitting. Actual teaching skills are something quite different than we have seen either girl exercising, The closest theyâve come is that when Tiffany had the class draw the flags of the world (as decorations for the homecoming dance) and when Luann made the class ask her questions to drill her (not them!) for an upcoming art history quiz.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Again, it all depends totally on our assuming events that were unseen by us. The downside of this approach to cartooning is that we are then perfectly free to assume anything we want, excusing that assumption on the grounds that we are forced to assume all the action that Evans doesnât show us, which is a great deal of truly critical information. So we can assume that Gunther and Tiffany did, or didnât, have slimy salamander-like sex, and we can assume that Luann is wonderful with the kids and Tiffany isnât, or vice versa.
seismic-2 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
Perhaps we should remember that the kiddies admire Tiffany rather more than than do Mr. Jawbone:--
wiselad almost 10 years ago
I can put today a clown at an elementary school and most kids would say at night âDad, mom, he was best teacher EVER!!!!!â (some would come crying as they scared of clowns but is the exception) but wonât make that clown better teacher than Miss Jane Doe teacher and most probably that clown would never pass a test to be certified as a teacher.
wiselad almost 10 years ago
and just in case some of you assume and write âwiselad just said Tiff is a clownâ, I did not, and I always have stated that I think she has lot of potential, she is just lazy to learn anything outside of her interests thus she comes across as a dimwit
