According to Peanuts Wiki, “…her mother is most likely deceased, in the strip from September 27, 1973 she tells Marcie that she does not have a mother.”
Glamping. The term means glamorous camping. Basically think of some of the old movie and TV jokes of yuppies and the filthy rich roughing it with all the modern conveniences available having come to fruition. You don’t have to do without a blender for mixed drinks, nor do you have to miss your favorite TV shows. Just about every modern convince is available to you. And if you have an RV you don’t even have to do without those. But you’re “roughing it” because you’re not at home or at a hotel.
We went camping when I was a kid and the closest we came to glamping was a pop-up Skamper trailer with a barely there mini-fridge, a sink, and a single overhead electric. And I did do even more traditional camping in the scouts. A difference was made between RVing and camping, which the glampers of today don’t seem to make.
Blah to glamping, I can barely even type that silly word. My dog and I backpack in the High Sierra, solo and often off trail. We find an isolated lake to ourselves and sleep under the stars if no rain is in the forecast. Absolute heaven. And I am an official senior citizen lady.
@jessegooddoggyI admire you, I once organized a camping trip near the wilderness, near but not quite; the kids had a riot learning bushcraft skills, playing in the water no matter how cold it was, but from their parents I got nothing but complaints. Now the children talk about that trip all the time. Good memories.
I enjoyed hiking and camping well into my 30s. It was a lot of fun. Don’t think it would have been as enjoyable if I’d had to carry an air conditioner on my back…
When I was 19 and 20, I also worked at a camp as a food truck driver; I delivered the food from the main camp center to the boys camp and then the girls camp. Made a lot of great friends and memories there.
I sign most of my stuff to people that know me with just an A (the first letter of my first name). Of course they already know who has written the note! Why do my whole name? Seems like overkill.
What I especially like here is that there is no gag at all — rare for a Peanuts strip. It’s just a glance into a character who, though she came late to the strip, became iconic. As a fiction writer myself, I love how characters can come front and center this way — especially ones as strong-willed as Peppermint Patty.

Back when camping was camping and not what it’s becoming today.

Interesting that she only writes to dad. Does she write separate letters to each parent? Are they divorced? Is Mom dead? Never knew Patty’s backstory.

l love how she added “Your rare gem”. I’m 50, and I still sign my Father’s Day cards with “Love, your Kitten”.

And notice she wrote it in cursive, a skill that’s quickly dying. (For some reason, in the Spanish version, she prints.)
