Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for July 13, 2015
Transcript:
Rat: Neighbor Bob and his wife have gotten a goose. They say it's helped with their relationship. Goat: How so? Rat: When Bob is nice to the goose, his wife feels closer to him, and as a result, she's more often and frank with him. Goat: So what's good for the goose is good for the candor. Rat: You're destroying our morale.
BE THIS GUY over 9 years ago
I didnāt know there was any morale to be destroyed.
Kali39 over 9 years ago
Actually, this oneās kind of pathetic, Cartoon Boy. You are just going to have to work harder if youāre going to succeed in destroying everyoneās moraleā¦

I think Rat is wrong. Neighbor bob and his wife didnāt get a goose, he goosed his wife.

OK, I was thinking this was heading to something about giving her a goose, but that might have been too much for the comics censor.

Iāll bet Pastis kills at parties. Seriously, I think people die.

Pointspreadā¦yeah, I donāt mind getting in a few barbs, myselfā¦. even if theyāre pointless.

I would have advised rat not to kill the goose that laid the golden egg; except Pastis isnāt a goose, and gold doesnāt smell like that.

So Frankās frankness has led to candid candor. Now if Frankās wifeās name is Candy, then Candyās goose can claim creating calming creature comforts. You gotta love Candy.

cdward over 9 years ago
Itās all part of the Pastis plot to pun people pitilessly into prostration.
cdgar over 9 years ago
I hope Pastis gets his goose in the end.

cartoon boy slipped a lot this time ā¦ and that is saying a lot as my motto has been the lousier the pun the better ā¦ this is not up to par ā¦

Nothing to do with the wordplay but just curious as Iāve seen this before on Pearls. Is saying āgottenā a local thing? The rest of the English speaking world would say āBob and his wife have got a gooseā if they are suggesting they have had one for some time and they may say āBob and his wife have now (or just) got a gooseā if they mean to suggest it was recently purchased. Gotten?

Past participle in this part of the āEnglishā speaking world:He gotHe had gotten.

If I were making a goose joke, it would be about a man who canāt keep his hands off a woman because he likes the way she looks; whatās good for a gander is good for a goose.

āAnd the morale of this comic strip isā¦ā

Kind&Kinder over 9 years ago
I guess what it comes down to is this stripās humor comes to us like puns through a goose. Keep it up, Steph!
Sisyphos over 9 years ago
If no one else dare say it, I will. Neighbor Bob and his wife are weird!I feel sorry for poor Goat, having to mouth such sub-standard dialogue.Cartoon-Boy, if you donāt straighten out and fly right, your goose is cooked!
abbybookcase over 9 years ago
as we used to sing at camp ātiptoe through the ducky-doo, tiptoeā¦ā i know, but somehow, singing the same bit with goose never caught on, even if it was more accurate
