The problem with the “low hanging fruit” analogy is that most politicians are like fruit that has dropped from the tree and is rotting on the ground.

…and then there’s the constitutionally-guaranteed freedom of speech and of the press, which means you can print anything in a comic strip you like, no matter whom it offends, and the papers and syndicators won’t buckle and fold when someone in another country says they’re going to do a terroristy thing if you run it.

Anyone with enough money and meeting the legal requirements (You must be 35 years of age, a natural U.S. citizen) can run for President.

Actually as a fellow Canadian, given our recent Senate scandals, I’m not so sure about our politics not becoming a circus sideshow.

As a (recently smug) Canadian, I have one question: How do these people even get consideration for high office. Do Americans think these candidates have any legitimacy??? It’s bad in Canada, but not a circus sideshow! Can anyone explain? (real question.

It’s only among likely Republican voters that Trump is leading in the polls, and that’s probably due to name recognition, since he had a popular TV show.

We love trump because when he says something he won’t take it back and won’t make apologies. He also doesn’t care what the mainstream media says or thinks.

During the ’76 campaign season, Ronald Reagan said something so inane on the radio that my friend and I looked at each other and cracked up, and one of us said, “Can you imagine that guy ever being elected president?” Four years later we were not laughing. Money can buy a lot of dirty tactics, and the D has a lot of it.

A lot of us could have seen this strip coming from a mile away, but it doesn’t make it any less special. GT was bound to have a ball with the hair, for starters. The mean look on Trump’s face at the end seems to be fitting and it has concerned me of late. He seems to be getting more and more mean-spirited, which does fall in line with a certain segment of the population within the U.S. The comment generalizing about Mexicans comes to mind. The buffoonery of the Donald has the GOP kind of stuck, which is quite a feat. If the GOP allows him as their nominee, they are sunk. If the GOP does not allow them as their nominee and he runs as a 3rd party candidate, they are sunk. Or, he could use all that $$$ to buy his way in by using dirty tactics and promoting himself as a Reagan, as he has tried to do so far. What happens next remains to be seen, but there is a long way to go between now and election day. There could be some skeletons in the Donald’s closet. Some things are already known which will probably not sit well with conservative voters in Iowa, such as he is on his 3rd wife. Then again, they may give him a pass on it, as so often happened with Reagan. Reagan was known as the teflon president, although many disasters would happen on his watch, nothing “stuck” to him.

So being rigid is a virtue, even when you’re wrong?All I’ve heard from tRump is how smart, rich and powerful he is, with a laundry list of complaints that he hasn’t a clue how to fix. “But he’s rigid!” Yeah, Viagra will do that.

Unfortunately, some people actually think that’s a good thing.2) A number of the GOP candidates know full well they have no chance of being president, but they are running to give themselves a national platform to spew their idiocy and raise their profile with conservatives. Also to get a book deal/commentator gig on Fox News. They’re only in it for the money.3) Some are ego-driven and have deluded themselves into thinking they have something of value to add, or than anyone besides themselves cares what they think.

There are more reasons, but these are some.

Unfortunately, there is no adequate explanation for this, IMO. It’s just another in a long list of reason why this country is sinking into the abyss and will probably take the rest of the world with it.

trump says he is a billionaire. then, multi-billionaire. then, a multi-millionaire. maybe he is just broke.

Trump is just part of a Republican plan to make all of the rest of their squirrel bait candidates look legit by comparison.

Let’s not let Trump be a decoy to distract us from how bad the rest of them are, too.

GOP can’t come up with anything legit against clintons or Obama so they make up phony crap. The dems don’t have to do anything like that with trump as he is perfectly capable of putting his own foot in his mouth every single time he opens it.

Trudeau panned the university of virginia because of the Rolling Stone article. Since it has been proven to be a total fabrication, I have not seen a retraction on his part. Has anyone seen an apology ? I lost a lot of respect for him because he can dish it out but not stand up and be counted when necessary.

Each of us has a right to his/her own point of view. It is my understanding that there were problems with the U of V article, certain facts were not corroborated, not up to the strictest journalistic standards, not that it was a total fabrication. If you don’t respect GT I am not sure why you would bother to read him or leave a comment. I don’t respect Rush Limbaugh and I can assure you I don’t bother with him in any way.

Neither of the two main political parties tells its members who they can consider and how they can think.It’s associated with the fact that freedom includes the freedom to do foolish things and live or die with the consequences.

Only HE considers himself to be a legitimate candidate.All the rest of us are waiting for him to get out of the way.

I am SO looking forward to the debates. They may even outshine four years ago, and that’s a tough act to follow.

The big thing is the claim that war can never be justified despite the fact that the alternative is sometimes suicide.You fight back or you are slaughtered.This is not to say that is usually the case, but to question those who say those are wrong who make war against their attackers..We might even add making war against states to end slavery, assuming that was the reason.
