Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for July 24, 2015

From the 1st panel, I thought the smokiness would have been because someone had allowed Diet to come in with a cigar (but then realized, Mr. Bigg meant Abner’s visit). Then, panel 2, what is Mr. Bigg’s LATEST treasure? And finally, Melies & Apollo produce the afore-mentioned Diet Smith! (Wasn’t that Mr. Bigg’s plan, all along?) ONE day, THREE thought-provoking panels!

What can the latest treasure possibly be? Apparently, it may arrive at any moment? Is it coming from Florida?

Mr. B is indeed surprised to see Diet Smith, so he hasn’t been bugging Méliès’s office. I don’t think Mr. Bigg was planning to kidnap Diet Smith, cpalmeresq.

Well, Abner HAS fulfilled his contract in a way……Tracy was no match for him and only intervention from unexpected visitors saved him. I know it won’t happen, but if they made a fake Diet Smith shrunken head it would sure give the story a great jolt once Tracy saw it….

Lots and Lots of things happening through the night. Smith Kidnapped, Kadaver visits, and a new mysterious treasure. Could it be that Mr Bigg is really that trusting that he hasn’t bugged the rest of the building? And thanks Neil! I’d almost forgotten about Mumbles!

I’m curious to not only know what Mr. Bigg’s treasure is, but why it was so important to inform Melies about it?

Didn’t Melies say they were going to kidnap Mysta, too?

Are we about to finally confirm Mr. Bigg’s identity? I have to think so if they remove Diet’s blindfold.

Mr. Bigg’s “Latest Treasure” might be the gold, though the sudden, unanticipated introduction of Diet Smith into the mix will probably derail that reveal.

I can’t help but wonder – if something blocks the light from Melies’ head, does it turn red in color? ;-)

I wonder if Sunday will feature a full, on-camera reveal of Mr. Bigg.

“Latest treasure”? Hmm.

Instead of plotting, wouldn’t it be simpler for Melies to get Apollo’s .50 caliber cannon and kill Mr. Bigg?I thought that’s how career advancement usually occurred in their business.

My first thought in connection to “turn up the fan” was that Mr. Big knows all about the bugs and wants to add a li’l white noise into the room to confound the eavesdroppers. Except that the Big Cheese of the eavesdroppers, if I may use the term, is in with him right now.

It seems that Blaze has taken the place of Mr. Bribery’s previous secretary, Miss Deal.

From criminal to errand girl (?) to Mr. Bigg’s secretary – Blaze Rize needs to get upset and do something.

Good afternoon guys!-Slept late today. Abner came home late and was telling us about his day with Mr. Bigg…

Treasure, treasure everywhere, and not a worry—yet! Diet Smith is helpless, the Méliès/Venus/Apollo faction is waxing. Can BB-Eyes/Mumbles/the new secretary [intentional poke, there] match with a new treasure of their own? Everything is going Mr. Bigg’s way, now that the smoke has cleared! Tracy and the MCU are going to have a big, big mess to clean up….

I’m guessing that the blindfold doesn’t come completely off until Sunday.

Maybe both. You have to deal with the dailies-only people as well as the Sundays-only people. I’m pretty sure that both of these types of paper are fairly common. (Papers that only carry one of those categories.)

Why am I thinking Mr. Bigg won’t be happy that Melies has kidnapped Diet Smith?

I don’t know how much newspapers account for revenue vs. online, but I actually think that the print revenue and readership is still bigger than the online revenue and readership at this time.

I’m happy, though, that the Sundays are not “reruns” or recaps only, the way they were just a few years ago.

I mean “assuming” (of course)

Unless Melies and co. are planning to kill Diet Smith later it would not be wise to remove his blindfold and let Diet see all the big names in the Blackhearts. He would be able to identify them. Not a good security arrangement. However, I still think this was a bad plan to begin with. We’ll just have to see how it plays out. Probably be something we didn’t expect.
