Not crayons—colored pencils (more subtle) or felt-tipped pens (more vibrant).
One thing you can do (as an adult) with crayons involves more than one sheet of paper and an iron. Do a thick level of crayon colors, then cover the sheet with a piece of wax paper and then another sheet of regular paper. Apply the iron to melt the crayon—not high heat—and then let it cool. It’s not exactly art, but it is interesting. Rainy days, etc.
Arlo probably said that in a dismissive tone of voice. Thus, he took all the joy and expectation out of Janis being creative and/or doing something together with Arlo.
And you guys jump on Janis when she gets testy. Arlo makes fun of her — often. Then like most men says he’s only joking or backpedals and wonders why she might not be in the mood. Stupid.
The answer is simple. Ban Arlo from shopping and don’t let him see what you got — she’s working, it’s her money and he’s a buzzkill on the little things that make her happy.
@John Smith — on the other hand, the “toys” that men use family savings for cost a LOT more than a coloring book and crayons — and if you spend thousands on something that benefit ONLY you — you should expect to hear about it.

Too late, Arlo. After all those years, haven’t you learned yet to THINK first, then utter?

The beauty of a coloring book is that you can write your own stories to go with the illustrations.

Crayons and color pencils are both fun. Markers are horrible….
