A somewhat enlarged image can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (yesterday). Again, it is a cropped image. A full, click-to-enlarge image can be found here. The Hymn of Pythagoreans in Praise of the Rising Sun (link shows Wikipedia page) or Pythagoreans celebrate sunrise isn’t currently shown online (Google translated Russian page has bio) by its current-location.A different coloration, maybe-click-to-enlarge image can be found here (Bing translated). A brief description can be found in a footnote, in an online book (preview) about Moscow Pythagoreans. The artist’s (Google translated) Wikipedia page (Google translated Russian Wikipedia page has much more) and collection.Third, of the 3 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here (3 total).
As previously noted, it’s Greek dress, Greek music, Greek history and Greek customs. Not Hebrew. Not to mention that the Pythagoreans date from a time centuries before the time of Jesus. At which point it stops being funny and becames both pointless and stupid. If this guys going to get paid for doing nothing but sticking captions on other people’s artwork, you would think he would take the trouble to avoid pulling dumb stunts like this! But the worst of it is, the vast majority of people are too ignorant to notice the difference, or probably even to understand this comic at all.
“Upbraid”..“behoove”…verily, a man after my own anachronistic heart! SERIOUSLY! I love you both, for I also share his pedantic streak. Let us not squabble amongst ourselves, but rather revel in our oddness, and thank Melcher for this delightful forum!!!
