No one, not even a kid, could seriously believe that letting a dog lick up a spill and then track it all over the house has anything to do with âcleaning upââŠ
Over the Patterson years, good olâ Farley has bailed out, or taken the blame for MANY mishaps by the kids, John and even Ellie! If he is re-incarnated into a human, he would make an ideal Presidential aide!
When things got quiet at a family reunion, we would hear a disembodied voice ring out with one of my older cousins ringing out her oldest sonâs first and middle name causing the replyââNothingâ. He would then immediately leave the vicinity ! ! !
Out of 6 dogs in 30 some years, Iâve rarely had a good clean up dog as I train them too well not to grab food out of childrenâs hands. I love it when I babysit our grand dog and just call out Come, I need a little help. Clean up in aisle 7. Works every time.
I never had a âclean upâ dog, in fact none of our dogs were allowed inside the house, but my momâs favorite dog was a mutt by the name of Skipper. Up until the day this happened my mom didnât like dogs, but she tollerated them, then came the day my aunt came to visit us on our new farm. She drove up the long sand drive and without realizing it she parked her car over a rattlesnake. My mom came running out with a convenient hoe to kill the snake and yelled at my aunt to stay in the car. My aunt, baffled by my momâs behavior, stayed in the car but had the door open, not realizing that there was a snake ready to strike if she put her foot down. Thatâs when Skipper ran past my mom, grabbed the snake just behind the head, and started whipping it around until every bone in itâs body was broken. That was the one dog my mom loved.

Milk: does the body good and it being spilt makes you cry.

Oh, I think youâre wrong, Michael. You are gonna get plenty of flack for your clean up strategy.

My dog is a MUCH better mop than that! When he gets done it looks like Mr. Clean has been to visit.

Note that Michael is initially grabbing a can of pop (soda for US folks). Only after Ellieâs question does he go for the milk.

It is unknown who was saying the words in the first panel. There is as much chance that Michaelâs father was saying that as much as his mother.
