The Buckets by Greg Cravens for September 17, 2015
Transcript:
Ok, class. Here's your first essay assignment for the new school year. What I did over my summer vacation. No, we do that during the chapter on cliche. This essay is what I will have done over next year's summer vacation. Feel free to describe, in loving, lavish detail, all the sleep you'll get, the social media you'll obsess over, and the video games you'll beat. Essays are the ones that are more than 140 characters, and don't have photos, right?

“Will have done?” Why not just say “Do?”

All industries have observed a distinct lack of writing skills in new graduates.

The reason he said “will have done” is that he wants them to write the essay in the past tense, not the future tense…“here is what I did”…not “here is what I will do.”

I wish I could adequately express how much I appreciate you guys and this comment section. Anybody wanna guess what it was like for cartoonists before we could get feedback that wasn’t weeks old? I much prefer this. Still, y’all play nice, y’hear?

Curly, if you can write an essay in 140 characters, proceed. “No photos” is correct.
