Suggestion to the next creative team on Dick Tracy:
Drop the outdated dual continuity between the Monday through Saturday run and the Sunday strip. It just results in padding during the week and a boring recap on Sunday. Run a separate story on Sunday. Don’t force the story to fit both Sunday and the rest of the week.
Of course, I’m assuming there will be a Dick Tracy strip around for a new team to take over.
A German U-boat, and a German Stuka
God this strip is going to make me puka
WWII artifacts in a science museum
Where’s the science exhibits, I wanna see ‘em
Climb down the cable, open up the canopy
Locher has created a monstrous insanity
Go run and hide and hide and then run
From the red haired villain holding the gun
Never mind the police that came to see the play
Run away from them and from them always stay
TARDIS technology in Naperville city
It’s not Dr. Who and that is a pity
But it’s “genius, sheer genius” we have been told
Never a bigger bill of goods has ever been sold
We witness the demise of this once fabled dick
Someone put him out of our misery, and please make it quick.
Don’t tell me Nothing is going to shoot the little wire or whatever holding up the airplane at Tracy’s goading and it is going to fall on top of Nothing.
Did Stukas have “Gull wings”? That bird looks like it might have two or three planes in its background, one of which is an American Corsair from WW2. The Gull wings come from that bird, I’m almost certain.
Doesn’t matter whether he can fly or not. Between panel 4 and panel 6 it’s lost half its left wing. I believe the Stuka JU 87 did have a very slight gull wing configuration.
With age, they say your short term memory is the first to go. However, you would think that by having the panels in front of you as you draw, you could at least have some consistency during the same day even if you can’t from day to day.
I had to look it up. Yes the Stuka does have a gull wing configuration. This bird looks like the photos for the most part, it’s sure not an F4u Corsair in any case. The canopy is wrong for the F4u.
Strange, ain’t it??? Locher is making some of us do something he clearly DIDN’T do— look up stuff to be sure we know what we’re talking about. If Locher had looked up police procedures, there’s absolutely no way this story— or any of half a dozen stories preceding it— could have been written the way they have been.
Wingerbill, you are absolutely correct about the Stuka JU 87. What’s amazing is that with the German’s superiority in aeronautical engineering, they didn’t put retractable landing gear on this plane. It probably would have delayed production too long.
For what it’s worth: the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka had reverse gull wings and fixed landing gear, like today’s drawing of the airplane. (Reverse gull wings – they bend in the opposite direction from a gull’s wings.) Today’s drawing looks like a Stuka. Or course tomorrow it could be drawn like a Spitfire, or a B-52, or who knows what….
@wndwrthg and others who wonder, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, IL has/had a German u-boat,the U-505 for over 50 years and a Stuka being attacked by a Spitfire hanging in the entrance lobby. While I admit to not having been there in several years I know the U-505 is still there as it was moved from outside to a special exhbit area in the basement sevral years ago.
Pannel 4 : Look, the ”grey hair” over the temples has come back real quick !
Brozman had introduced a younger looking Tracy when he took over the art in March 2009
But now - we’ll have to admit, the Blank has Tracy frightened like sheet !

Dick has always had his ups and downs relative to creative story lines. Some stories wear better than others.

OK-I get it now-Tracy’s gonna take off-Then take a dogleg using Anja’s big head as a landmark-turn downwind and dive bomb the sub. GOOD THINKING!
riley05 over 14 years ago
Tracy is just learning from experience. He evaded Nothing by entering the sub from one hatch and leaving by another.
Now he’ll enter the plane via one wing, and exit by the other.
prrdh over 14 years ago
No…he’ll exit through the bomb bay, so he lands on Nothing–head first, so as to do no damage to himself.
