Zonker: She's got some sort of summer job at an art institute in Shanghai. Curtis: That Dean Honey! What a primo educator! Zonker: "Because of Deng's modernizations, our schools of art are once again flourishing. Many comrades contended for my position at the institute. I feel very lucky, though the journey from Red Guard to avant-garde is perilous. Already, there's much critiquing of counter-revolutionary aesthetics." Honey: How's this, comrade? Instructor: No, it's still decadent. Try dropping your shoulder.

How can it be counter-revolutionary? She is still wearing the Mao cap.

Classic Socialist Realism in painting :the naked Proletariat is marching toward the future and seems very pretty.

I read a book on fashion a while back talking about the Mao uniform fad in China—part of what happened is that “counter-revolutionary” garb was banned, but no two people could agree on what wasn’t counter-revolutionary except what Comrade Mao wore. So even though people theoretically had the freedom to choose what to wear within guidelines, in practice,99% of the population wore exactly the same thing.

The words “Honey” and “decadent” create an oxymoron. Maybe I should change my screen name to Oxy Moron. Opinions welcomed.

I bought a Chairman Mao watch over there as a gift for a friend. It was a rather cheap piece of tin, so I told him it was for entertainment purposes only. Not telling time.

“The journey from Red Guard to avant-garde is perilous” is one of the funniest lines Trudeau ever penned and I say that as a fan and follower of the strip for over 35 years.

Hottie Honey has high hopes.Mao murdered more than Stalin who murdered more than Hitler, but he had more to work with ~~ more time and people..China is better off lately despite a few minor flaws.

This strip is quite timely. Last week I came across a site that collects Chinese propaganda posters. Check out chineseposters dot net.
