The problem with these days: more attention is paid to the wedding than to the marriage. That’s why I liked my funky little wedding in my father-in-law’s apartment. We may not have had a big church, fancy dress, multiple attendants or huge hall reception, but we’ve been married for 30 years.

“Love” last a few weeks, “like” lasts for years.

Elly’s only interested in wedding dress. Does Phil love the woman does she love him if not the wedding will not last? For hubby and I we kept God centered on our wedding and I knew he is the one for me and still is 34 years later. My hubby been solid rock in helping with my 90-year-old mom. Only regret we did not have more only two children not after age 30 came not knowing future of mental status I would not put children through.

Phil says that after you are married, you can’t just pack up and move out. Oh yes you can! Not so “permanent” these days.

Elly needs to tell Phil “A man isn’t complete until he’s married. And then he’s finished!”

My husband and I got married in a big church. It had been set up for a wedding the following day, so we had nice decorations. There were exactly six people there. Us, the pastor and his wife and my parents (both of his were deceased by then). We have been married 32 years and are still going strong.

Long marriages seem to run in my family. Maternal grandparents: 74 years. Paternal grandparents: 79 years Parents: 61 years. And to date and counting: Brother #1: 48 years. Brother #2: 33 years.

Keep in mind that the first 50 years are the hardest. After that, it’s inertia.

We got married in Temple with 40 guests. I wore a white cotton lace cocktail dress that I later dyed so I could wear it again and we were married almost 55 years.

Oh Elly – you complain how your husband doesn’t always listen and now you are doing the same. Your brother is looking for serious advice and you are picturing a wedding – you are not helping!

It is not always the woman who wants a church wedding.I would have been happy with a small outdoor ceremony, but my husband said- Since he planned only to get married once, he wanted a traditional church wedding.Of course, I was pragmatic enough to agree..We economized -By setting the wedding early in the day, we splurged on a catered cocktail reception instead of going full out with dinner and dancing. My Mom made the bridesmaids dresses and we limited flowers to a small bouquet for me and single rose buds for the bridesmaids. The best man’s mother-in-law owned a bridal shop. She helped me find a beautiful dress and sold it to me at cost..One of my husband’s roommates played classical guitar when I walked down the aisle.Another friend made our wedding cake andmy father-in-law was our wedding photographer..That was 41 years ago. We are looking forward to many more years together.

Gee Phil, is a wedding so bad, considering last month Elly and Georgia were considering making your funeral arrangements?
