Canât trust dog food. Especially from, you know where! After the last two, the only food I feed mine is people food (what I eat), & vet kibbles, except stuff thatâs bad for himâŠmilk, chocolate, grapes, onions, etcâŠ
As a member of the family, donât be mean to your dog.He loves you all & would/could give his life for you, or could save you.The most underrated animal, that doesnât live long enough!!
I agree with Pacobuddy. My husbandâs childhood dog ate good people food and lived to be 17. His Italian mom cooked special for the dog! Ours is15 now in great health. We mix some people food in with his kibble twice a day and gets a nibble, a nibble there throughout the day. Not one smidgen overweight. However saying that he begs and counter surfs like crazy. My next dog will be taught better manners. This was my first dog so I made mistakes. :-)
We were cautioned against letting Farley get too heavy, as this would add pressure to the already stressed hip joint. Putting him on a diet wasnât easy â he would beg for table scraps and I hated to waste them.
My daughter has trained the dogs to sit away from table no table food. Vet states cheerioâs are okay for dogs including for school for dog training on cheerios. My brother-in-law/wife absolute no table food.Wishing everyone Happy Thanksgiving day. We are rain and then expecting sleet and accumulating ice. But still a great day today. We need rain.
My folks trained our beagle to stay out of the kitchen while we were eating. He stayed just outside the door next to the table, but would lie down and put his front paws just inside the door and inch his way slowly inside until someone noticed and sent him out again.
As others have pointed out, this is not a Thanskgiving strip. The Canadian Thanksgiving was in October. Those who are seeing a profound message about hungry people we canât see are adding a dimension to a strip about a dog with hip displasia that Lynn never intended.
Out in Arizona, I had a neighbor with 2 German shepherds. She was a complete vegan and fed the dogâs a vegan diet, as well.Every chance they got, they were over my house trying to eat my dogsâ food or âborrowingâ my dogsâ bones.
I finally, along with my friendly vet, convinced her that dogs are carnivores and require meat protein ( chicken, fish, beef, lamb etc. ) in their daily diet.
Since ( for whatever ethical, religious or social convictions she had ) she couldnât bring herself to buy dog food or bones, it fell to me to do the purchasing for her dogs.
Within 3 months, her dogs had gained a healthy body weight and their coats were healthy looking. The vet was pleased, the dogs were immensely happier, and so was the owner.
My dogs were thrilled as well !
PS I have always trained my animals ( dog & cats ) to stay away from the table, or anywhere else when people are eating. I never allowed animals to " beg" at the table.
Itâs one of my pet peeves ( pun intended ) when I visit other peopleâs homes and they allow their animals free reign ( again, pun intended ).
My friends canât believe that I cook chicken breasts for my dog to eat on top of her kibble. Her digistive system wasnât established at first so we did the yogurt, white rice, and chicken routine for 9 months. Now she has to have a some chicken on her kibble 3 times a day. Kitty has decided thatâs a good idea too. Iâd give them some left over turkey b;r but there isnât any.

If people food is doing him harm, then feeding him people food isnât really sharing. Better to teach him not to âmoochââŠ

Farley reminds me of our dog. Ours is a sheepdog too, only the Shetland kind.

Years ago when this strip was in the present time, Farley saved the youngest girlâs life and died. He didnât have hip displasia.

You are the pack leader, you should give your pack a little of what you are eating â a taste, then the food that you buy especially for him.

So Michael, what instruction from your mother did you fail to comprehend, the no or the no?
