Or in today’s era, Wikipedia. Who uses an encyclopedia these days anyway?

By which Linus meant a hard copy. Today folks can just go online to Wikipedia, Britannica.com (the online Encyclopedia Britannica for those who didn’t figure out the obvious), World Book Encyclopedia, etc. Plus to the millions of websites out there which aren’t online encyclopedias but which are educational none the less. Just shows how times have changed.

Ah yes, Chicken-birds. Their favourite food is a good group of grapes.

I like how Peanuts keeps it old school

When this was written, the encyclopedia was modern technology.

We say tuna fish. Why not chicken-bird?

Linus might find out that the enemies of the chicken-birds are the dreaded Queen Snake and the equally dreaded gully cat.

Bats, from yesterday. You didn’t miss much. I am a classic movie fan but Citizen Kane is not a favorite of mine. I’m also not high on Orson Welles as I don’t care much for his other movies either.

No, Linus, chicken birds don’t build nests on mountain tops. But brave birds do.

I bet Linus never looked up the Great Pumpkin in the encyclopedia either.

This is the second strip I’ve seen today where there are comments indicating that the strip was written years, sometimes (as in the case of ‘Peanuts’,) decades ago.

In determining whether nor not “-bird” is helpful in this situation, ask yourself “Are there any chickens that aren’t birds?” Not until Jessica Simpson asked that question about chicken of the sea in 2009. Since then, Americans have, I fear, grown dumber, so perhaps Linus’ modifier was merely prescient.

Linus has had that blanket for too long. It is starting to affect his brain.

I use the Britannica when I need accurate information. We have a complete set with all the current yearbooks. Wiki can be helpful, but because of the way it is written, often contains sketchy data and therefore is not reliable…

I remember when Wiki was first starting to be popular, there was an interview on TV of somebody from Encyclopedia Britannica. He said something like “Wikipedia is best for topics that can’t fit into a traditional encyclopedia.” The tone of his voice clearly let us know that he was really saying, “Wiki is fine for topics that aren’t important enough for a REAL encyclopedia.”

If you meant actual chickens Linus, no they don’t. But if you meant birds that lack courage, then there are several species — most fish-eagles (of which baldy is one — check the derisive of it by Ben Franklin) — which do!
