It’s a touchy subject, pig. Ask again in 100 years.

Sadly Pig’s question seems like one some Americans actually would ask.
Mikel V over 9 years ago

Dakota was formed as a territory in 1861 which included present day North and South Dakota plus most of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. There was a separate war with the Sioux Indians in the Dakota territory that coincided with the US Civil War.

CIVIL WAR???War is HELL people and it is hardest on the civilians.

It was a war between the farmers and the industrialists. Both sides lost, and both sides won. Does that answer your question, Pig? It doesn’t? You’re more confused than ever? Welcome to the US of A.

I thought the Dakota was an apartment building on Central Park West.

Greenland won, at least there were no Icelandic survivors left in Greenland.

There was nothing civil about it. 600,000 soldiers died.

Silly Pig. It was between West and East Virginia. The East lost so now it’s just called Virginia.

“Mars and…??” Wasn’t it?

Civil war is a misnomer. It was the War of Secession. It would have been a Civil war if the South had tried to conquer the North.
Alexander the Good Enough over 9 years ago
Well, the thing I find remarkable is how they managed to fight nearly all of the Civil War battles at national parks. Revolutionary War battles, too.

Pig needs to start from the beginning and learn about the states—34 at the time of the War Between the States.
joelschou over 9 years ago
Regardless, the North wins. Screw you, South Dakota!
CYGNUS X1 over 9 years ago
Its time to take up arms against the those North Jerseyians again. We’re sick of that giant sucking sound from Trenton North! Throw in Cherry Swill while your at it and anything North of the 42 Freeway!!!! To Arms!!!!

We claim to make societies CIVIL as opposed to barbaric. Is it so that they could wage a CIVIL War??Then all’s well in the world today!!! Just a simple minded pig, trying to make sense of it all, that’s me!
loner34 over 9 years ago
It was between North America and South America.
Fido (aka Felix Rex) over 9 years ago
The Seven-Years’ War (1755-1764, which isn’t seven years) had battles in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia, so shouldn’t it be considered a World War? It is known as the French and Indian War here in the States and our friends to the north call it the War of Conquest.

Well, Pig, it all started at Fort Sumter, which is located in Southern California.

Isaac Asimov once pointed out that only one state or colony has ever been designated as “East,” namely, East Jersey Colony, along with West Jersey.
The only other East/West divided state I can think of offhand is East and West Germany—which have since been reunited.

SP, i will have to look up if you grew up in the tristate. (Any chance of a relationship w Teddy? She and i grew up going to Setauket School and ELVHS more decades ago than i think you have been in the world.) Yes, southern NJ was and remains more midatlantic while northern NJ is and remains closer in ways to NYC and New England, and that division did show up in some split sympathies around the time of the Civil War.
SukieCrandall Premium Member over 9 years ago
Ah, you grew up in California if Wikipedia is to be trusted, SP. Reading that ddid lead me to your Timmy Failure series which i have added to mt wish list for our great-niece and great-nephew.
