Is it just me, or do they appear to be standing on solid ground in midair?

I wondered what would happen when Kirby stopped to save Wally and Holly. Would the hole keep expanding and swallow them all? Now I know, but what did they land on? Never a dull moment, Aaron, always keep us guessing.

It looks like the edge of the hole passed them by and that they are suspended in mid air.

I was afraid that the sink hole would keep growing right under Kirbee if she stopped running. It looks like Wally’s still suspended by Kirbee’s tongue but that she and Holly are on some sort of ledge. Is this some building that was buried by the dust? Perhaps the remains of a city destroyed in the war? Curious…

You know, there WAS a time when I looked forward to Fridays. Talk about a cliffhanger! Or maybe just a hanger. The cliff has moved on… ;-)

Soon they will be working in a coal mine going down down down down.Irving to the Rescue…….he can fly ya know.Chic maybe helping……..he’s got wings.Well one thing is for sure…….Holly don’t need to try to dig up Clive…..Topsiders took care of that.I personally thought Kirbee was saying Leaves don’t last. After all it is Autumn.

Y’know, for someone who’s hanging over a cliff edge by a thin tongue and the good graces of Kirbee, Wally’s being pretty sarcastic in Panel Two…

I thought they were all falling, but you’re right DarwinsKeeper, it looks like Kirbee and Holly are sitting on something semi solid based on how they are posed. A ledge hidden in the dust or by dittos?

The hole has opened up and passed them. Kirbee is kneeling, holding on to Wally with her tongue, holding Chic with two arms, and Holly is on her knees beside Kirbee after being pushed up by Wally.

All of them look like they are floating in mid-air.

    Dittos to the rescue again?

Dittos shouldn’t be able to support them as we’ve been given to understand them. If it were a ledge of some kind, I’d expect to see the dust cliff behind them splitting around it somehow. I suppose it could be some sort of rocky spire just large enough to support them and that they were so incredibly lucky to have landed on. I never got the impression that Kirby ever fell at all, as she seemed to be oblivious to the cliff face passing, so she and Holly must still be at the original ground level. Curiouser and curiouser, it would seem. ;-)

From Clive to Cliff we’ve run the gamut the last few weeks. Now we will be getting to the bottom of things… Possibly?Wally should have kept his mouth shut, I don’t believe Kirbee can walk and chew gum at the same time..

Dittos to the rescue means they simulated the earthquake bomb to get them to leave the area for some reason. They are and have always been on solid ground.

Dang, don’t know what is going on. Best guess is that the dittos are extending an image of the crater beyond our heroes? But why, if so? Or…. we are in the middle of some cartoon physics and they haven’t started falling yet (ya know, you don’t start falling until you do a double take)

Some of you seem to forget that the TSers have Amesworth disintegrator technology, which in this case seems to mean that the missile drilled into the earth and disintegrated a huge cavity which now seems to be collapsing. For reference, a deep nuke will also make for a fierce shock, but the post shot slump would not be anywhere near that deep.

Could be dittos.Could be a bomb shield for an underground facility the Topsiders have been looking for.

If this is ditto trickery, then our group is on the edge. Wally is definitely hanging off Kirbee’s tongue while Kirbee and Holly appear to on something solid. Is the missile attack and whatever they’re supported by have anything to do with that leaning tower thingy they were walking towards? I was hoping we’d get to that by now.

Anybody else notice in the last panel, they’re not falling? The ‘edge’ of the hole is several feet behind them and Holly is on her hands and knees and Kirbee is down on one knee and there’s nothing but dark under them. Dittos? Are they making an illusion of a ground collapse to fool the topsiders or are they holding our little party up above the collapse?
