The “RETURN” of Matty Square (or, in this case, “Squared”), no matter how they do it, or how odd it may be, is something I never expected even in my wildest imaginings! Team Tracy, you never cease to come up with interesting and new ideas!

Take a close look at Glitch , then at Matty. Just a little bit of plastic surgery and Glitch becomes Matty. Hmmm! Is it possible that Glitch is Matty????

Matty Square was boiled alive when Ugly Christine’s “foot fault” caused the barrel he was in to roll into the scalding cauldron. The trap was meant for Tracy. Bribery lost an awfully good man.

Poor Kitty!

So, it looks like Professor Glitch is going to create a “digital life form” in his own image, according to Bribery’s specifications, whatever they might be. Well, it’s actually Mr. Bribery who designed the face, so maybe we’re assuming too much about the resemblance of Glitch to the proposed Matty Squared.

I suppose we’ll have to “tune in” again some months from now to see what this creation is, exactly, and how it works. The idea of a “virus” that is “intelligent” and yet “belongs” to Mr. Bribery is intriguing, but not without its contradictions.

Meanwhile, we ought to get back to Tracy, hot on the trail of Specs and Spicy, because I’m sure the Apparatus would also like to catch up with them. It’s a question of when their pursuers will find out where they’ve gone.

Could this be the set up for this summer’s big story?

INTERESTING . . .This “peep forward” into the future to see what lies ahead, and one can’t help but like the reminiscent ‘touch’ of a Digital Life Form named Matty Squared ! ? He could easily have added Kitty - for ‘old times’ sake ! (?)

But this pause, this interlude, also serves another purpose, it’s one to allow TIME to establish a rationale for Tracy and other detectives to also go to Cuba !

Here we are, some 4 weeks IN, and no “Crime” is seen to be properly “investigated” !

We have a Quandary here . . .Not a ‘clue’, not a ‘shred’ of ‘evidence’ on the table ! ?And a question, are the 2 crimes mentioned connected ? Seems ludicrous, why would a Group (the Apparatus?) who just stole $4 Billion in CASH, then - burgle a residence (Bea Thorndike’s) for (relatively) “petty cash” ! ?

Perhaps, we’re arriving at a Vitamin Flintheart “moment” - here . . .‘Time’ to go On Stage, ‘Address’ the Audience - and provide some philosophical ‘substance’ for that journey to Cuba ! ?

Quite a treat for us mid-1960’s DT fans!Matty Square was the featured villain the first day I began reading Dick Tracy back in ’65.

Matty “Squared” could be rendered Matty2, which looks like Matty Part 2, or Matty 2.0, a reincarnation of the original villain.Very subtle and very clever. Once again, kudos to Team Tracy.

Thank you AKHenderson and Pequod for the info on the demise of Matty. I wonder where Matty’s cat is now. It wasn’t with Bribery when he returned. Looks like this Bribery story is more interesting than the current one.

With Kitty and Miss Deal back, it would almost be like old times. (I guess it would be asking too much to hold out for Ugly Christine. It would be hard to explain away HER death after falling down that furnace chimney!)

The original Mattie Square arc was one of my favorites.

Today’s comments have been sharp and perceptive; I find that getting on board late I have little left to offer. Maybe just a reminder that we are entering the Age of Virtual A.I. (M-M-Max Headroom—which I really enjoyed back in the day—is such a distant ancestor!)
