I drove across (Pacific/Atlantic) once at the height of the love bug season … had to refill my windshield washer fluid twice … and then did a car wash because the acid in the bug’s body can damage a car’s paint, or so I was informed.
Years ago my brother-in-law drove out from Tampa to visit us in central Arizona. After arriving, as he got out of his truck, a strange bug fluttered out, a love bug so he said. “Great, thanks for introducing a non-native insect to our environment!” I said.

In Texas they come in May every year. They’re called ‘lovebugs’ because they are hooked up when they hit your windshield.

Telephone bugs. They say hello and hang up.

Never heard of these bugs before. Another unpleasant aspect of life to be aware of.
