Why would you keep a book that you’ve read?

I think she is going to read instead of housework and feels naughty about it.I don’t.

The most valuable thing is not gold, silver, diamonds, etc.. It’s books. You can go anywhere, at or to any time and do or learn anything !!! All in the comfort of your home !!!

When I downsized to 1000 sq feet, I no longer had a whole wall of bookshelves. Giving so many away was one of the hardest things about moving, although I made certain they all went to good homes.

You just have to be ruthless. I have well over 1,000 books. Periodically, I thin the herd. I can easily find some to get rid of. Last time, I think it was two.

…when my husband and I split, I asked him if he wanted his books; we had toted them around for over 20 years. HE SAID NO!!! He now has a Kindle…took me forever to pack up 80 BOXES OF BOOKS (approx. 25+ to the box) (hardcover, paperback, old, new, mostly sci-fi) and donate them to a charity – hopefully, they made a lot of money on them to put to a good cause. I have nothing at all against books, I love them, I just have no time to read them right now, and the sci-fi he loved I mostly found to be ‘meh’…

In high school I had to read both “great expectations” and“wuthering heights”. I hated both of those books.

They are Arlo’s books and she’s going to get rid of them and see if he even notices!

Giving away books can be a wonderful thing. I gave my sons “Atlas Shrugged” when they were in junior high. My younger son gave me “Lamb” when he was commissioned a Naval officer. A couple of years ago I gave him Thomas Sowell’s “Vision of the Anointed.” Great way to share great ideas.

The kindle keeps it neater, but books are so easy to buy cheap that at last count I was 27 books behind in my reading.

@gigagrouch Don’t you ever watch a movie more than once, because you like it or because you want to catch the finer points? I have about a dozen books I read every year…

I constantly reread the great books the ones that have survived through the ages. As I am in different times in my life I find that they speak to me I different words I always get something new from them. However I like to introduce my good friends to others who can use and appreciate their wisdom so I have no problems giving away my books to others.

It may end with Arlo bitching at her because she is reading again instead of sitting there watching him watch TV (a man’s idea of fun and togetherness).

I hope she’s taking it to read, and feeling guilty about it…..I’ve read all of Christopher Moore’s and Carl Hiaasen’s books twice, as well as many others…..I’ve read Joseph Heywood’s The Snow Fly three times, and feel like reading it again…..I also donate books to the local library, even some like a lot….If I want to reread them, I know where they are….

Well to be honest I really only have about 60 physical books in the house… but my kindle “shelves” runneth over :) I’m disabled and most days can’t hold a book long enough for a good read… So I keep the others for sentimental value, actual value or for the grandkids and guests.

hehe I have approximately 2k books not including my kindle :D I am always reading 1-3 books at a time.

I recently sent a box full to my wife’s brother in Ohio. I got a call from him and he loved getting them all!
