My daughters are reading this, so they will be informed. Also, we have tylenol now, and ibuprofen if they get swollen. I’m pretty sure there are a couple days of discomfort, infected or no, during the healing process and when twisting the studs daily and putting the cleaning stuff on.
I’m surprised her earlobes are hurting so much. Mine didn’t. And it’s true how quickly your ears can close. I’d gotten my ears pierced right before the school year in high school and we were not allowed to wear earrings in gym class. I tried to ask if I could put tape over them and she refused. She said if I didn’t take them out, then I would get an unprepared with a detention, so I took them out (I thought I wouldn’t be able to get the studs out because when I got my ears pierced the first time, one of my ears got infected and I couldn’t get them out). Anyway, I did get them out and one of my lobes was OK, but the other had closed in the back. I went to the nurse to get it back in. After a lot of wrestling and pain, she got it in. For the next class, I took an old wire hoop earring, snipped of a short piece and kept it in the hole and it wasn’t noticeable. It kept it open just enough so I could get the studs back in.
I only remember being warned that you have to keep the earrings in for 3 weeks so the holes won’t close. It was uncomfortable for sleeping and talking on the phone but that’s the price you pay.
I tend to go on to my kids, and have to really work to ‘watch it!’. I try to notice when eyes start to glaze. ;-)But, it’s always with the best of love and concern in my heart. So, I have a bit more empathy for Elly. I guess, too, I looked around the world as a messed up grownup, and wished I’d had a bit more time and communication from MY folks, while doing the growing up. Over compensating? I guess. But, that’s why I try and ‘watch it!’Oh, and my ears hurt and took forever to heal! I stuck with it, but mine were definitely like Elizabeth’s.
This is all so passe, now lips, nose, tongue, and what else I don’t want to know. Personally, I am waiting for lip plates and stacked neck rings to make an appearance.
I thought there was a strip where Elly says she was in fourth grade before she got her first pair of earrings, and trying to tell Elizabeth that first grade is too premature. Is it just me or was that strip censored?
I got my ears pierced in my thirties, because I found clip-ons uncomfortable. My mom got hers pierced in her fifties, because she inherited some diamond studs from HER mother. Don’t recall that either of us had much trouble.

I can’t remember my pierced ears hurting afterwards, nor do I remember anyone ever saying theirs hurt.

Typical, many people want things and think there is no price to pay. When they find out they start pointing fingers.

My daughter insisted on her ears pierced but found out she is allergic to cheap made studs have to be hyperallegnic studs.
