Mom: I worry about Luann's trip. Pru's idea of New York is so...exotic. Dad: Hon, there comes a day when you have to let go and just trust our daughter. Now go to sleep. Mom: She's going to visit the museum of sex with Pru's pal ecstasy.
It’s not bad Frank, don’t worry. You two raised her right. Ectasy is a stage name. On the other hand being the father of a daughter, as particular avocation for fathers, there is nothing like it (since we know how much young dogs we generally are or were when we were young, now we are old dogs with wisdom) I can see his trepidation. But no Luann will be fine, and the people in New York will open her eyes to a lot, but they are totally benign. I know it will a hard to sleep but it will be okay dad.
. . . the people in New York will open her eyes to a lot, but they are totally benign. I know it will a hard to sleep but it will be okay dad.-—————————————————-Yes, probably. But let’s hope something of interest actually happens, and not just chatter back and forth about cats in trees.

I wish I could do that headlight thing with my eyes in the dark, when I wanted to. Wouldn’t stub my toe going to the bathroom at 2:00 AM.Pru may be quirky in her tastes, and her friends may be a bit unusual, but I don’t think she (nor the Evans’) would lead Luann and Bern into anything truly unsavory or inappropriate. They’ll be fine. Might grow a bit in the process. You raised her well so far, Mom and Dad, now it’s time to let her have some of her own adventures.

The funny thing is I’ve been to the Museum Of Sex, and it’s nowhere near as weird non-New Yorkers might imagine. Of course I’m saying this as a native New Yorker.
Someone in Frank and Nancy’s shoes would easily be mistaken for being “sterile, prude, no fun, frumpy, uptight”. And these days, anyone who “dares to walk on the more conservative side” becomes regarded as such. All that said, this is “comedy gold”, as Frank now realizes ‘parental trust’ is “easier said, than done”!
Okay, new topic:We all seem to figure that Pru may be older than Luann and in some ways more mature, but in what ways do you think Pru might be more IMMATURE than Luann?
I am wondering if Pru is someone who embraces change for change’s sake, rather than taking time to think through HOW the specific change would take place and what types of damage certain changes could cause — in some cases in and of themselves but in most cases depending on how the changes are implemented.
Yes, there are people of all ages who act like that, but the majority of people grow into thinking more before embracing a large change or following someone promising large changes without sufficient explanations because experience shows most to take the time to THINK FIRST. So, i am wondering if Pru is going to turn out to be more immature than Luann in that way and if at least some of her friends might.
I think this trip might put Luann and Bernie (using Aunt Bernie/Bernice’s nickname for her) into the position where they learn that it is safe to assert themselves.
If the person is using the older take on the word, the comment is a bodily waste one, so in that situation that person’s post might be a fly-by feces drop in the comments section.
Luann Comic Team – in case you’ve forgotten, Luann is now no longer in high school. She is college age. At that age, parents aren’t much part of their lives, so please cut down on strips on the parents. One strip a couple weeks would suffice. It is boring to read about parents because parental behaviors and actions are almost universal of which we all are familiar with. This is the third strip this week featuring the parents – about them worrying about Luann’s trip to NYC…how droll. We don’t need to read about that – we know parents worry about children. If Luann were still in high school and going to NYC and staying with Pru’s friends, THAT would be different and comic strip-worthy.
Hmmm….Way last summer, Quill went to The Big Apple for that drama internship. Nobody worried about him, but he must have met the same people and gone to the same places. Small wonder that he had little interest in Lu when he got back.
L, you ask a separate but related question in asking if Luann is cautious. That is also a useful question, especially because caution is sometimes built from information, but can arise from fear.
It is a matter of trying to weigh degrees of impetuousness with too little, but suggestive, information so far given.
From what has so far been told i think there is the possibility that Pru might be more impetuous than Luann, though degree remains an unknown, and there mght still be missing information about some of Pru’s choices.
Therefore, i am wondering what others think might be possible.

Pru suggested she visit the Museum of Sex. What the girls actually do once they get to NY may be quite different.

I’ve been to the museum of sex recently with my wife.
It’s scholarly and informative but not salacious, really.
Of course, if you are highly religious, or prudish, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Well that killed any chance of romance, at least in that bedroom. New York? That’s a whole different story.

Replace the “y” with an “i” and drop the “e” and you’ll get it. It’s a British variant spelling of a common four-letter word.
