And she still needs to find out that work is as bad as school; plus you don’t get recess or summer vacation.

Unless you work for the school, then you get every holiday, break, and yes, snow day off and paid.Summers aren’t paid though, and you get to see teenagers haven’t changed much in 36 years. Just the age when they expose themselves to porn and drugs.Yesterday, I heard the “N-word” 814 times! This was out of the mouths of your children not the awful music they listen to.That I could do without…

I remember a similarly themed underground comic from the 1970’s/80’s. Heroine was named ‘Polly Morpheus’ or something similar…

I prefer 25.You’re basically at your most fit. You’ve completed most or all of your formal schooling. You’ve finally learned that you don’t know it all.And you should be earning a decent wage.

I’m 76. I grew up in rural Arkansas and Texas. I had a lot of the good ol’ days. I wouldn’t go back even if I could.Cars that lasted only 50,000 miles and worn out.Water from wells and cisterns that was often contaminated.Food contaminated and adulterated with god knows what.Children as young as 4 years old working. Adult men could marry 10 year old girls. One southern state finally removed that law in 1960,Women couldn’t enter into a legal contract in most states. Telephone service was pay phones and party lines. No government social services. I knew a man who starved to death. No medical care if you didn’t have money or insurance.I worked with a young man whose baby died in his Mother’s arms while they were driving from hospital to hospital. They didn’t have insurance and no money.Schools went from the September 1 to May 31. We got out of school for Thanksgiving 2 days. Christmas from half day on Christmas eve to January 2, Easter 2 days and that was it. I could write a book instead of this rant.

@Dr_Zin. There’s a Charlie Daniels song which goes: “If I could have just one wish, I’d like another try at 25, or was it 26?”

I’d start over at 34 – that’s how old I was when Hubby and I got married. He still treats me as if I am 34, and I’m twice that and then some.

13 is that yo-yo age for girls. When they are wildly oscillating between the ages of 10 and 20. Scary times for a dad.

white heron, yup. Reminds me of the Rogert Hunter line…“Heard Joe Farmer say, ‘scuse me please,Those were the days, but so are these…”….People forget that, sometimes…………Just and Peaceful,….That’s true, and it hit’s the new teachers the hardest….. Miserable pay for the first few years, and out of that, you have to pay for a Master’s Degree, because you’ll never make any money without it. But you’ll usually do it by going into debt up to your ears…After ten or fifteen years, though, if you keep taking classes…It’s still a lot more work than you’d think, but at least you finally have some money to spend….You’ve paid off your student loan, up higher on the pay scale…Taking vacations, going out to dinner…..and then …Oops babies!…. Look, there are a lot worse jobs than teaching, but there are none more difficult… I come from a family of teachers…(It’s a disease that runs in a family, I think..)….They always told me, You’ll never get rich, but you’ll do OK. And you’ll have the comfort of knowing you did your part, you tried to improve society…… You jumped in the arena and fought on the side of knowledge, insight and enlightenment… And you can honestly say you didn’t do it for the money….

A_Dream4u Snow days are made up at what otherwise would be summer vacation and generally when teachers’ mandatory courses are registering at the nearest teachers college – which they must pay for. Some cushy job, slacker!

You sound a lot like a scientist; always nibbling away at the bleeding edges of The Known Universe. Every question asked (with Feynman’s Faith; careful questions Will get Honest Answers from the Universe), the answer will lead you to even more questions! But that’s how we get a little larger lighted area into the Big Dark.
