Steve’s back injury was humorously based upon Berke Breathed’s own accident and back injury flying an ultralight glider. “Legrunt” was a take-off from the name of his own surgeon (IIRC, LeGrant). His doctor approved of the joke. He mentioned this in one of his Bloom County anthologies.
When sedated you can hear what is being said. Part of sedation now has the administration of a hypnotic to prevent you from remembering the procedure. Makes me curious about subliminal ideas being introduced into the subconscious.

Of course, he will sue. It’s what he was born to do.

Sigh, having had an abdominal surgery, I asked the doc if they removed some fat while they were in there. He said “only about a tablespoon.”
I just said “Damn, I thought that since I was opened-. . ..”
He said “Your stomach would have been so uneven and lumpy since we just needed to open the side up, you would have sued me for malpractice.”
I replied “No doc, I would have instead come back and had you repeat it on the other side.”
We both laughed.

Let’s hope the reason isn’t that now Steve could be “A Boy Named Sue”…

What could possibly have gone wrong, right?
Obviously this is just precautionary on Dr. LeGrunt’s part….

How could that be possible? Steve is quite woozy from the anesthesia, he may remember very little after he wakes up.
