Asp as deadly as the snakes born of Medusas’ bloodTough guys can take a little pain, bold Asp withstands a flood.A normal man does what he can to minimize grim dangerAsp befriends a bloody path, to the Reaper he’s no stranger. To aid Detective Tracy in the wake of cast aspersions An honor to now clear his name in light of filmed perversions. For Asp this is light duty, just a walk out in the parkA fool who’d raise his hand to Asp could wake up in the dark.It is to laugh to hear Asp say, “Oh, yes, please taze me, brotherThe first one tickled me so well, I would enjoy another.”Good to have a friend like Asp, a man both skilled and trueShould he be an enemy fast flight is best for you.
So, I guess Dr. Stungun-Man is not going to give out any details about Harvey. (I could have sworn he was always “Harley” before this.) The point is that the Asp was right. Niav hasn’t been there for some time. The narrator also tells us that Happydale is the former home of Putty Puss, so he didn’t go back for dinner.
It is good to have Asp in the strip. With Tracy suspended from official duty, there is room for an unofficial helper. Punjab and Asp were two of my favorite Annie characters, as they brought a fantastical element that gave the strip a lot of life. It was also a rare treat when Mr. Am appeared. I agree with Willy that the audacity of Mysta’s rebirth and Honeymoon’s Lunarian developments puts a real shine on the strip. The rare appearances of Punjab and Asp are icing on the cake. Unwise to take liberties with Asp’s patience.
A good reminder from Sgt. Doherty regarding National Police Memorial Week. I’m heading out for a lakefront bike ride south. East of Soldier Field, south-west of the Planetarium (remember that place?), one will find the Gold Star Families Park and Memorial. It is a good day to stop by. Thanks to Neil Wick, Jim in CT, cpalmeresq, 22ph, Willy007, Ray Toler, Chris Sherlock, Vista Bill, JPuzzleWhiz and abdullahbaba999 for the kind words. Very much appreciated!
Asp has Tracy’s back. Good guy to have around, since this Happydale schmuck was playing for keeps. Also, a superlative job again today, Pequod, thanks!
Good poem honoring my special fav, the Asp, Pequod! It is never prudent nor wise to antagonize the Asp nor to make him smile—that’s not his “thing” (and when he and Punjab team up, the world rocks). I think that after a little special attention from the Asp, this whitecoat will sing his pounding heart out….
I may be wrong, but wasn’t the Asp also in the last DT-Annie crossover?
When the Blackhearts HQ was raided, Punjab mentioned that he had known it was going to be this much fun, he would have invited the Asp, but the Asp wasn’t actually in that story, aside from that one mention.
The Happydale guy is too thin to be Putty Puss and acts a different character. Interesting idea though. I wonder what he has to hide that he would risk a violent response. Surely he must realize that they will find out the truth eventually. There could be more going on here than just a missing Putty Puss.
Having Asp and Punjab with their powers is an asset in all kind of situations. I just hope Tracy and co. don’t get too dependent on them and risk appearing inept at doing their jobs. This sort of points out there is a lot of potential in reactivating the Annie strip. The characters are already there. However, it’s so hard to add continuity strips these days.
Oops. I blame it on the BlackBerry smartphone I had a few years back. It had I and U on the same key and automatically figured out which one was meant. Ever since then, I seem to type those two letters interchangeably, though I don’t want to.
I did take some shots and fear I have expanded a bit some from a few years back …
I have this expansion problem, myself, and I’ve started modifying my food intake in various ways. I hope it will help.

WOW….The Asp can shrug off a taser shot? Oliver Warbucks has some seriously dangerous people working for him.

Hey, we have a Sgt. Jim Doherty Crimestoppers Textbook today. I thought maybe they weren’t running any more of Jim’s stuff.

I have to wonder what it is that he’s so desperate to conceal. Of course, the Asp will make him reveal all.

Last time, Team Tracy called up Annie and Punjab.
This time, it’s Warbucks and The Asp coming in off of the bench.

Maybe Asp’s jacket is rubberized like a Mackintosh coat.

Also, “Niav” is “Vain” spelled backwards.

Here is Harley Niav’s first appearance in the strip as himself, December 6, 1987, when he was definitely “Harley”:

It would be fun to see what Abner Kadaver might do if he ever found himself facing the Asp….

Asp, with a smile, said the stun gun merely “tickled” him.
It reminded me of a scene in “Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country,” of General Chang quoting Shakespeare:
“Tickle us, do we not laugh? Prick us, do we not bleed? Wrong us, shall we not revenge?”
Don’t mess with Asp.

I can’t imagine having The Asp as an adversary. Far better to have someone like him on your side!

No, it is indeed “Harley”. The one time this past week when they used the “v” was just a typo.
More than once. They did it yesterday in the Saturday strip and today in the Sunday, and we know those are not normally prepared at the same time.Neil Wick over 8 years ago
