What about Mother’s day? We just celebrated it. Every month has a holiday except August. Not all are days off, and some are barely acknowledged, but they are there. In the US this is.

Those aren’t federal holidays, I suppose.

Massachusetts has Patriot’s Day in April, always on a Monday and the day of the Marathon. Move to MA, Arlo!

That must be why the drinking holidays (st. pat’s & cinco de mayo) are so popular. The younger set has spring break, too.

In Nebraska we have Arbor Day… Schools have Easter or Spring Break. Arlo and Janis must live in one of those progressive, sophisticated places where no one gets to have fun.

Curiously we also have a long stretch without a long weekend from the Queen’s birthday on the 2nd Monday in June through to Melbourne Cup (the horse race that stops a nation) on the first Tuesday in November. But that’s winter; three months without long weekends over Spring/Summer is daft.

I’ve been outraged by this for years, Arlo. Almost all of the work holidays are during the cold months of October through February yet during the spring, when we are all itching from spring fever, there is not a single work holiday.

Let’s move Columbus Day to April!

Llywus42Or make April 1 a holiday to celebrate all the fools looking for a holiday to celebrate instead of working to end the abundance of injustices.

For the 10 federal holidays, 7 of them are within four months of each other:

Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Year’s, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and President’s Day.

That leaves Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day for the other 8 months.
