Seriously, though…Given the number of zoos in America, and the number of children taken to them every year, statistically speaking, the worst case scenario was bound to happen eventually.
Actually, given almost 320 million people, you almost certainly find something outrageous every single day to start a twitter flame war.
Not a great fan of zoos, wildlife parks, etc. But by bringing animals to the attention of the public, people donate more to causes trying to protect animals in their natural habitats.
I’m 74. My brother was 2 years younger than me, and very mischievous. My mother always had him on a leash in public from ages 2 to 4 because he would never stay with us or listen to her when we went grocery shopping, etc., and publicly spanking him would have been frowned upon then as it is now. At least the leash kept him from knocking down displays or wandering off if she wanted to take a moment to check the freshness of the produce.
Total responsibility of the ZOO to construct and maintain a safe viewing area covering ALL possible scenarios. Same goes for Big Cat exhibits and other attractions at zoos. Mom not too different from others, relied on the Zoo to make Safety First! NOT negotiable! Just sayin.
I was raised on a leash, there were just 14 months between my brother and I and I wore mom out. Mom told me she was shopping one day, my brother in her arms and me on the leash, when an older woman came up and started berating her for having me on a leash like an animal. Mom told her ’at least I know where my children are.
I can understand why people are opposed to keeping animals in zoos. (It used to be much worse — animals pacing endlessly in tiny concrete-floored wire cages.) But today they have natural habitats and captive breeding programs. In some cases, these programs make the difference between life and extinction. And by displaying the animals, it makes the public more sympathetic toward protection efforts. It’s not a black-and-white issue.
In Chicago 23 people are shot and 6 die in one night on the Friday of the Memorial Day weekend….and American goes ballistic over an ape. Even more insane is that the mass shootings aren’t even an item anymore.
Awesome, the Men’s Kouch is back from Outland. Although it is somewhat bowdlerized since it is spelled with a “c” instead of a “k”, the guys are wearing more than just their tighty whities, and Milquetoast the Cockroach is nowhere in sight.
The Men’s Kouch was a product of what was no doubt BB’s Cynic phase. That’s Cynic with a capital “C,” the Greek philosophical movement founded by Diogenes. Like the original residents of the Men’s Kouch, the Cynics repudiated conventional society and wore little or no clothing in public as a protest against this society. During the Outland era, many characters, including Microsoft founder Bill Gates, were also known to strip naked and lie in a field of dandelions when the world became too inane for them.

Once again, Opus asks a question that no one else seems to be asking.

Why to protect him so he wouldn’t get shot by poachers of course.

The mother should have had the kids tranquilized.

Actually, society does do that.

As far as I’m concerned, Opus asks the right question. Boycott the zoos, aquariums, and all the other captive animal businesses.

We didn’t have leashes when my girls were little. It’s called parenting. Get off the iphone, please.

The whole thing was a conspiracy to get rid of the gorilla without looking totally inhumane.

Tranquilizer darts don’t take effect immediately. The dart might have enraged the gorilla, making things worse for the kid.

It would have looked suspicious if they blindfolded the gorilla and drove him outside Cincinnati before shooting him.

Maybe I’m naive, but it doesn’t seem to me it would be rocket science to make the enclosure childproof.
