The police use a local gas station as a gathering point. My wife took our two-year old son in one day to meet them and say hello, so that he’d know that the police are people here to help..Well over 99% of officers are good people doing an amazingly difficult job. We need to tackle the racial disparities and systemic failures, openly and honestly, but in a way that respects those who protect us.
Told a deputy at a local convenience store about Jay Leno frequently making cop/donut jokes, which would inevitably be followed by at least one cop contacting the show to complain. Then one night during his Headlines segment, he referenced a C/D joke from the previous week, mentioned the obligatory protest contact — and showed a photo from some local paper of a police cruiser that had rear-ended a donut truck. You can’t make this stuff up. That was her reaction as she laughed at the juxtaposition.
