Nope; a “subsistance famer” is one who grows his own food to stay alive – what isn’t eaten on his table when picked is put up to last until the next harvest. G & ML are small commercial farmers, who sell their produce to stay alive.

I agree with Cozmik Cowboy. G & ML are small commercial farmers who are selling to the high end over priced new age cooks who are using good organic foods,but the plate is done up all frou frou arty farty when the server delivers it. I watch “The Edible Garden” which is really good ( PBS) but keep waiting for a new year of shows…and I’ve seen the PBS program A Chef’s Life which is a bit more down to earth and I REALLY enjoy because I’ve been in the food industry business for more than 4 decades and it’s spot on… make it appealing, use good, safe foods like how my mama never had to worry but just bought fresh or safe canned when the fresh wasn’t in season and don’t over load the plate but you’re full….this is what G & ML originally tried to do. The strip writer has just mixed up the descriptive phrase is all., It all good

My back yard farm is producing ripe tomatoes,cukes,green beans and onions, carrots,beets,and zucchini which I can tolerate because my wife makes chocolate cake with it!
