Frankly, I would balk at complying with a request written like that.

Funny comments! But I still don’t get joke in the strip.Anyone?

And thebird… why??? She said “please.”Just because she’s using acronyms?

On a smart phone with a swipe-style keyboard, where you just glide your fingertip between letters and it guesses the word, all those acronyms are pretty unnecessary, but some people are just used to them.

If they first texted (or still do) on a regular phone keypad, it takes three presses to text some letters…much more tedious, so they learned to shorten everything.

That reminds me…. Flash…LY is “Love You.”

Perhaps just a riff on how technology has changed a lot, perhaps to improve many aspects of our lives… but so much stays the same. Such as, husbands always forgetting what their wives asked them to do because we were busy with another task and we don’t multitask well.

If she is walking home, it cannot be that far, & ground beef, frozen, needs days to thaw in the refrigerator. Sounds like a microwave thaw is in order! Why, then, not wait until she gets home to do it? And, one should not thaw meat at room temperature. Fast thaw in a sink of cold water, but that will still take hours.

“LY” means “Love You”. I think the point is that even all the great technology available for delivering a message an be foiled by a distracted mind.

At this point my wife would be saying, “So where are you going to take me out to dinner?”

yeah I asked my husband to put out some chicken Sunday…..I mean it was in the fridge where he keeps the drinks he takes golfing, all he had to do was take it out when he got his drinks……but NO, but that is ok, it worked out.

maybe it’s just a commentary on how, even with all this technology, we still have human foibles to contend with.

In panel 3, he didn’t understand the text. In panel 4, he’s snapping his fingers because he now understands what the text said. The joke is that he’d rather say “I forget” than admit he couldn’t decipher the text message.

I love my mother tongue, English, and I refuse to torture it as many, perhaps most, texters do. English spelling is chaotic enough without trying to abbreviate everything.

Perhaps Arlo did forget—because a brain trained to speak and understand a language will not retain such gobbledegook.

But then, since such old fashioned things as spelling and grammar are no longer taught, I suppose it’s the only thing left. Sic transit gloria ars scribendi.

My interpretation: Checking texts now has become like when you look at your watch, and then you forget what time it is as soon as you look away. I could be wrong.

I didn’t know the LY and frankly I’m proud of that, if you can’t spell that out then it doesn’t mean much does it.

scaevaYou cover the glories of the English language (ignoring its abundance of mongrel etymologies which provided so much of its hybrid vigor), and then end with Latin. Yes, I could read “Thus goes the glory of the written arts” without using a translating dictionary, despite 61 years since my last Latin class.

She made a simple request. He blew it. It is a modern version of a note left on the kitchen counter, or the like.

By the way the sent radio transmission would have gone through two wireless towers, not three. But, don’t try to use logic on a cartoonist.

Please is not spelled with a " Z ", and it would of only of required typing 12 extra letters to spell out the entire message properly. Boy ! How hard and how much more time would that have taken, isn’t being Polite a lot more important ? I would of made a call as this is much more personal and respectful. At least you could leave a voice mail, Oh ! right you might have to use some of the " So Valuable " Air Time. If the person you are calling is worth less than your air time then don’t call them. ( Speed isn’t everthing ! ) Just my opinion. Have a Great Day !
