It’s the few people at the top who send their nations young people against each other to kill and main each other (and bystanders) for the financial and political benefit of the few people at the top.

Like Hitler’s German youth, for example? I guess Roosevelt was wrong to send Americans to fight them. And we should just let ISIS continue their jihad. Wake up, Flash.

War is a failure of diplomacy. In a SF story I read, wars were fought by single units of 100 soldiers per side on an island. That decided the outcome, without serious damage to real estate or populations. In another story, wars were fought by champion video gamers on computers, refighting historic battles with the appropriate handicaps. The outcome of the game was the outcome of the war. No damage to anybody.Or, we could start electing gladiators as heads of state and let them duke it out, no armies.I’d like to see the scores of presidential candidates in a game that simulates all the aspects of running a country. Then we’d have an actual performance record, not just rhetoric and promises. That would whittle down the field before the primaries, and we’d have capable candidates.

dsom8I was around back then and you obviously weren’t. Germany declared war on us, leaving us little choice in the matter. And if you are planning to bring up the official lie regarding the incident of 11 September 2001, those involved were mostly Saudis (our friends whom we allowed to leave when no one else could and to whom we want to send tanks now), two Egyptians (our friends at the time, unknown status now), and one Yemeni (whom we are letting the Saudis wipe out for their own purposes. All those we leave alone while we attack Afghanistan and Iraq for the greater glory and profits of Haliburton. Then on to adjacent countries as long as it enriches the wealthy of the world. There is no parallel in the matter, so stop alleging one.

As a conscientious objector during the Vietnam era, I did get to choose my battles. Specifically, not these! On the other hand, if we were actually being invaded, I would’ve signed up in a flash.
