Sluggo: I feel a MAMAS AND PAPAS song coming on---- All the leaves are brown...and the sky is gray...I was gonna rake...But that's another day....
Television: 3rd down and two...
Broadcasters transmit their programming out over VHF and UHF airwaves in both the old analog form and now in digital and HDTV signals, so these rabbit ears will actually work. Not as well, and the quality will degrade the further the TV from the transmitter. Back in the day, you would see TV antennas on the roof of every house in the neighborhood. Generally with 3 choices. ABC, NBC, CBS. That’s it. If the networks were carrying a presidential address, that’s all there was to watch. When UHF television stations came into being (Channel numbers from 13 to 99), the choices increased.
In Anaheim (greater Los Angeles area) in the 50’s we had 7 stations. CBS on 2, NBC on 4, KTLA on 5, ABC on 7, KTTV (later Fox) on 11 and KCOP on 13. As kids, channels 5, 11 & 13 had the best daytime shows – the networks were mostly soaps and news. Except, of course, the Mickey Mouse Club. That was ABC.

Why concern about picking up TV signals? Just enjoy the comic strip

We had channel 13 on VHF long before UHF was available. CKCO in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada began broadcasting on channel 13 in 1954.

Ah, doing “enter, enter, ALT-255, enter, enter” DOES create a blank space between lines!
