Adam: How are the hot lemonade sales?
Katy: Not good. Turns out hot lemonade tastes a lot like that Theraflu stuff. I think I need to diversify.
Adam: Hot cocoa?
Katy: I was thinking hot mango smoothies, but yours is better.
Why don’t they just let the kid take riding lessons? At least she would then be having contact with ponies…Still, kudos to her for taking matters into her own hands – a friend of mine did the exact same thing when her parents said the inevitable “No” to her pleas for a pony of her own. She did all manner of money raising activities, and within a year was able to take her parents to a local field where she had arranged for her dream to live: a piebald cob stallion.
I used to tell the parents of my riding students to lease a horse/pony for a while before buying one. That way if the novelty wears off and they decide they aren’t really that enamored of horse ownership and all the work/expense it entails, they can just not renew the lease. Many people who have horses they are not using will lease them just for the cost of their upkeep. I’ve done it myself many times for my 4H riders. They would just take the horse for a year, pay all its expenses and return it at the end of the year. It is a great solution for a growing child who needs a pony now but will need a horse in a year or two, or needs a beginner horse now but will need something that can jump next year.
Uggghhhh Theraflu. I remember my mother in law giving me something like that when I had severe allergies and it put me to sleep and when I woke up I felt even worse. Never again.
The little girl could sell coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, all 4 of those would sell well in cold weather.
As for the pony, Adam should tell her to learn all she can about them, take her to see them, and encourage her dream but tell her that actually owning one has to wait til she grows up and can work to buy one and arrange to live somewhere she can keep it. I had a friend who had a horse but she was having it stabled somewhere and was paying enormous fees for it’s upkeep. Eventually she ended up selling it.

A couple of centuries too late for mulled wine, but maybe it’s time to bring it back. ’Tis the season for wassailing. Maybe the cider deal would work.

If your hot lemonade tastes like Theraflu, you have done something wrong to it.
