I remember in about 1972 a neighbourhood kid wanted $30 to mow my parents’ lawn. The going rate even for an unkempt lawn was about a quarter of that. For the rest of the decade he was referred to as “the $30 idiot.”
In my preteens (early 1960s) me and two friends would go around the neighborhood shoveling driveways. The most we ever charged anyone was two bucks and we made a killing. It was back breaking work but at the time it was worth it. Remember those were the days of 5 and 10 cent chocolate bars!
Don’t use that trick Charlie Brown. Lucy knows it too well. How else do you think she’s been cheating you out of all that money at the psychiatry booth?
I shoveled lots of sidewalks for a quarter a piece in the 50’s when I was in grade school. I mowed for $1.00. Loved those early years of being a kid in a town I loved.
Thank you for your lovely comment last week. I was going to tell you what my daily responsibilities are in my job but I didn’t want to bore you.
What do you think of the new GoComics? I think it looks fantastic.
I hope retirement goes well for you…..in 3 and a 1/2 years! I know that some people enjoy their jobs so much that they don’t want to retire. I might be one of those people in the very, very far future because I’m certainly enjoying my job now. After over 30 years of teaching you deserve a break.
By the way, I had forgotton all about this until very late today but I became a blood donor 5 years ago. I first donated in 2012. So proud. I wish I could meet my receivers.

This particular strip came out in 1970. Twenty-five cents is a little over a dollar-fifty by today’s standards. Live it up, C.B.!

If she wants a “keep your walk clear all winter no matter the circumstances” contract, it’s going to cost a lot more than a quarter.

After his riotous living, he’ll have to pay Lucy 5 cents for the psychiatric evaluation.
