When I started a major remodeling project on my house, I bought an old beater 1967 International pickup for $300.
The radio didn’t work, the parking brake was whimsical, the lighting system worked only in the daytime, the master cylinder leaked, and the worn kingpin bushings made driving down a narrow street an adventure. But that beast could literally pull the porch off a house.
Back in ’62, we bought a ’51 Chevy for $50, the insurance was $100. It ran for 6 months, but that was our first car. Wish it could have lasted a bit longer though.
My first car (‘57 Beetle) didn’t have a radio, so I took out the ashtray and stuck an FM portable in the space. Someone broke into the car and the only thing they took was the radio. I suspect they may have been disappointed as the tuner was broken and all it could get was the local classical music station.

Pluggers can enjoy the Top Ten, because they don’t remember them from earlier in the year.

Still drive a 1971 VW bus. Bought it in 2000. Didn’t have a radio. Still doesn’t.

I’d have to add FM to the radio. I doubt there’s any music on the AM around here. If there’s talking, I’m walking…
