When I started a major remodeling project on my house, I bought an old beater 1967 International pickup for $300.
The radio didnāt work, the parking brake was whimsical, the lighting system worked only in the daytime, the master cylinder leaked, and the worn kingpin bushings made driving down a narrow street an adventure. But that beast could literally pull the porch off a house.
Back in ā62, we bought a ā51 Chevy for $50, the insurance was $100. It ran for 6 months, but that was our first car. Wish it could have lasted a bit longer though.
My first car (ā57 Beetle) didnāt have a radio, so I took out the ashtray and stuck an FM portable in the space. Someone broke into the car and the only thing they took was the radio. I suspect they may have been disappointed as the tuner was broken and all it could get was the local classical music station.
