Yeah, much of the brain is doing many things all the time that we aren’t aware of to continually keep our bodies functioning normally. Now the part of the brain we use for consciousness may be 10%, maybe more, maybe less. We don’t really know.
fMRI studies show the most utilization is for speech processing, talking, listening, reading, writing. It is just as well we use so little of it in normal use; even at that it accounts for 20% of our energy expenditure. If we somehow used 100% of our brains that would exhaust the oxygen and glucose to the brain and overheat it. Bad news.
They have also debunked that left brained right brained nonsense. I was so glad to see the end of that. And we DO use 100% of our brains, all the time. Speaking I’d using, so is walking, so is eating…so is thinking up the theory of relativity! No one said “using your whole brain all the time” had to be for highly intelligent endeavors. If that were the case, no one would ever grow our food or make our cars.
“A person who acts intelligently and correctly has much less brain activity associated with the choice of actions, because they “know” without the need to access multiple memories and juggle many concepts and probabilities.”

Here is an article that says that the conscious brain is only about 5%.

We don’t even know we are conscious or self-aware.
We just think we are.

Sure. But just because you are using 100% of your money doesn’t mean any of it is going to savings or necessities.
You could probably still say we only effectively use 10% of our brain’s capacity.

Brains….. (Envision zombie script here)

Actually, Albert Einstein estimated the average person only uses one tenth of one percent (0.01%) of his brain power — women not so much.

Except politicians… they use far less!

The reason why we use 100% of our brains is because, as a species, we are abysmally inefficient thinkers

Politicians are exceptionally smart – they keep fooling enough people to get re-elected.
.
Most of the candidates I vote for don’t get elected. I figure that makes me smarter than at least half the voters.

If most politicians are one percent as smart as they think they are, they would be 100 times as smart as they really are.
