Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for January 18, 2017

Transcript:
Janis: It's that time of year, I see!
Arlo: Yes! The season of hearty soups and gumbos!
Arlo: And the feasting of carnival! 'Farewell to the flesh!'
Arlo: By the way, I used all the flesh in our freezer!
Makes sense. Sure don’t to start a new year with a freezer full of Old Flesh. Need to acquire some fresh stuff. Need to do that myself. There is a 10lb brisket in mine that is pushing the 10 year mark.
People forget about the best part of the cold of winter is warming up after being out in the cold….Say you’re out playing in the snow, walking or what ever, and you get cold..(Pet peeves: People not dressing warmly, and anybody, especially women, not wearing hats…..I knew an old German lady that would always say, “If you want warm feet, wear a hat!”) Anyhoo, the best part of winter is warming up from the cold….It’s one of the greatest feelings in the world. Hot chocolate by the fire, maybe doctored up a bit…. Hot soup. Hot everything….Secondary pleasure…When it gets too warm and stuffy in the house, you can just step out side for a quick blast of cold, clear, fresh clean air. The contrast is sublime….Just don’t slip on the ice and bump, bump, bump down the steps……..
If all the flesh in their freezer is in those pots, there wasn’t much to start with. There is most of half a cow in mine (except for what we have already eaten, a 13 lb. pork butt and various other ribs, chops and steaks from other hogs, plus a turkey or two. Let the snow and ice come, I’m ready. Now, if I could just get to my grill and smoker.
PSCHEARER, oh, man, I’d make a lousy detective….I thought it was you….I must be a visual type of person….You know, even though it’s a short post, I remember thinking it didn’t sound like you……Thanks for the heads up!
Actually I am confused. If he is getting rid of all the “flesh” for Carnival that is not until Feb 28 this year as it is the same as Mardi Gras and is the day before Ash Wednesday. It would make sense to get rid of the flesh in the house before same if one does not eat any at all during Lent (rare, but done). I know that there are certain groups that get rid of all fat before same – including the Amish.

In the days of the Spam commercials: “Do you know what is in Spam?” I really, really wanted somebody to answer, “Yes… the flesh of dead swine.”

Flash, sick? When somebody is sick, shouldn’t they be eating chicken soup?

Just for the record, the person using the name Flash Gordon is not me.
