Your computers could make those noises if you wanted them too.

“Captain’s log: stardate 2017. We REALLY need to upgrade right now!”

Well Phoebe, people expected to live a more futuristic life-style in XXI century, at least that’s what the ancients told me.

Sounds like the past is disappointing her.

Its all in the mind of the prop master and set designer.

Hey, nobody was able to anticipate grunge, either.

Perhaps the communicators inspired flip-phones, but what became of the scanners – those things in the original Star Trek series that always looked like purses or shoulder bags?

In “2001: A Space Odyssey” we were travelling to Jupiter (Saturn in the book) at the turn of the century. Oh, well.

Where’s my flying car?!!!!

Just remember that the Star Trek future came after World War 3 and a Eugenics War before that.

Well, Phoebe’s phone is dependent on having a network of masts already set up every few miles, and huge tech companies handling the signals. Star Trek communicators have to provide their own power and processing.

And why don’t they have seat belts?
