Sheesh! Elly looks scary in the last panel. Just as a general rule, if your spouse looks and sounds homicidal over the kids, that’s the time when the other parent should step in and say, “You know, honey. I’ll set the alarm for 2 a.m. and you get your sleep. There’s no rule that says the Tooth Fairy has to be the mom.” Your spouse will thank you for it and so will your kids.

John should have helped Lizzie write a note for the tooth fairy explaining what happened, and stuck that under her pillow. It might have helped her calm down by focusing on something that would fix part of the problem.

Good heavens, it’s not like she has to go searchin’ the child’s poo for the dang tooth, what an irritable mom! And, like other parents, why not just wait 15-20 minutes for the child to be asleep to put money under her pillow? Geesh.

Let her find no reward. A lesson in consequences? Sometimes daddy and mommy can’t “make it all better.”

One time one of my daughters lost a tooth. We have a little tooth holder that is put at the child’s place at the table (we don’t do under the pillow for a lot of reasons). However, this one time I actually fell asleep before my daughter did, and my husband was at work (3rd shift). What I ended up doing was, the next evening, left the money with a note of apology from “Dwayne” the Tooth Fairy.

Maybe Elly needs anger management classes.

Isn’t 20/20 hindsight of someone else’s parenting a wonderful thing (this for all the people constantly criticizing).

Ah yeah, the tooth saga continues.John is a dentist, why doesn’t he keep a sack of rotten teeth under the bed for just such an emergency?

Why are you setting your alarm for 2AM? My Mom told me that she used to come in at least 20 minutes after I fell asleep. Also, why didn’t John just support Lizzie and the two of them write out a letter, explaining things. And since John isn’t as tired as Elly, then why didn’t John offer to go in place of Elly? Both of these parents are backwards, I’m still surprised their kids turned out “normal”

I see some posts are taking this to the N-th degree. You know, it’s a strip, and the last panel is the punch. To me it was funny.

I swallowed a tooth eating dinner as a kid. Mom just had me leave a note on the window sill explaining. We left our tooth in a glass of water on the kitchen window.

Since I only got a dime for my baby teeth, it was hardly worth the angst. I lost a baby tooth 2 years ago. Very traumatic. It was a 68 year old baby eye tooth and left a gap, which is now filled in with a very expensive bridge. I don’t think that the dime I would have received by placing it under my pillow (which I was asked if I was going to do by half a dozen or more people…after they had stopped laughing at my new gap-toothed smile) would have cover the cost of the replacement.
