Have to agree with that. Haven’t heard very many drum solos that I liked.

I don’t agree. I have heard many in the Jazz idiom that I have liked. Not all but more than a few…

If you are into super percussion, look for ‘Rich vs Roach,’ the 1959 studio album by Max Rich and Buddy Roach. Terrific!

Mrs. Olsen isn’t too good at improvisation.

I like the brushes, but that would be weird for a drum solo.

In Caulfield’s defense he is talking about brushes. Can’t think of any memorable drum solos that didn’t involve drumsticks.

A missionary is on a south Pacific island talking to the tribal chief when they hear drums from the next island. The chief looks close to panic. The missionary asks, “what’s wrong with the drums?” The chief says, “drums not bad. Drums stop, very bad.” The missionary has visions of cannibal attacks or something, and he asks, “why? what happens when the drums stop?” The chief replies, “when drums stop, bass solo.”
