Tiffany has a dinner date, yes, but it’s more like a barely-a-simmer dinner date to me.

What a surprise! There’s been no recent buildup to this. Gunther had dumped Tiffany quite a while back.

I bet Gomer is really hot in that suit.

I would venture a guess that Airman will be thrilled!

That just might work out. Gunther is being very courtly. I hope Tiffany appreciates it.

I hope Jack and Luann work out too.

I am wishing everyone a good day. I thank those who gave their lives for our country. Think of someone who might not be around anymore and give someone who is still here a big hug.

Though he has a rough appearance. Jack is a true gentleman. Proving true the old saying that,* “you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover.”*

Yes! Tiffany and Gunther together is my favorite among arcs! I hope we see them tomorrow instead of Luann and Jack.

Now, no one even got close to predicting today’s arc, so rather than congratulations i am going to instead give a “powerful wishing award” to Airman who has wished for these two to wind up together again even more times than i have (by a wide margin).

Finally, i am trying without luck to figure out what sort of restaurant they are going to. Gunther is in a business suit with tie while Tiffany is dressed very casually. Has she just not changed yet or is he over-dressed?

Well la di da, Gunther with Tiffany! Actually Tiffany does not seem to overly thrilled, but Gunther does. Personally I still pine for Rosa as a better choice. But there might be a chance if Tiffany can ever get over, or into herself, and see what a kind, gentle, future big earning kinds of guy Gunther would be. A great dad too. As for Jack and Luann he appears to be a real gentleman, and Luann appears to really like him. There might be something there. Lets see where it goes from here. Nothing that is expected necessarily happens in this strip, unless it actually happens. Gunther and Tiffany.

Actually I need to write two comments. Notice the difference between the two couples: Jack is all buff, gentleman, caring, and has much bigger flowers. Luann is Luann beautiful without trying to be anything but a normal college girl. TIffany needs to make it known she has a “hot” dinner date, rather than an “art” class, and when the date arrives it’s Gunther looking rather nerdy, holding a small bunch of flowers he probably picked from the ground on the way there, while she is dressed more sexy, with her drop shoulder sweater. Who, of the two women, seem happier, and as a point of debate, more in an element that means a real relationship with potential? Answer that dear fellow commentators.

I was just thinking about Luann and Jack. The thing I like best about that couple is that they can be themselves. They’re casual. They have fun. They don’t have to be seen at the “best places.” They can have a great time in art class, walking dogs, or acting silly at the bowling alley. Aaron Hill was always too full of himself. Quill started out great, but became full of himself toward the end of their relationship. So I agree with you, LUANN1212. Gunther IS trying in his own nerdy way. It’s endearing that he’s going to some effort. The suit and flowers aren’t perfect, but at least he’s trying.

I am surprised to see Gunther arriving to take Tiffany out, when he was so intent on trying for a relationship with Bernice. I remember him even telling Bernice, when she was suggesting that he was with Tiffany, that he though Tiffany was ‘stupid’ or something like that. In Gunther’s world, there is no greater crime, I think, than being ‘stupid’. So I am surprised to see him arrive at her door, with flowers in hand. I would have understood it if she had called him (in order to be able to tell Jack and Luann that she herself had plans better than their plans to go to school), but her greeting to Gunther doesn’t make it appear that she is overjoyed about her ‘hot’ dinner date. So what’s going? Guess we have to stay tuned…

We can pretty much guess that it will not be a double date. Tiffany would probably rather not be seen out on the town with him or have anyone know her “hot” date was with Gunther. It would be hilarious if his mom was out in the car waiting so she could go to dinner with them. After all, Mrs. B never lets Gunthie take the ’58 Edsel Ranger out without her being along. She and Gunthie will be in the front and Tiffany will have to ride in back.

In baseball terms, Greg & Karen caught the corner for a called strike – we weren’t looking for Gunther to show up at Tiff’s with flowers. I remember Tiffany sweetly seeking Gunther’s help with her homework, which he was able to contribute. Tiff needs to contribute something to the relationship – and I believe she really wants to. It would be wonderful if Tiff could find a way to loosen the grip of Gunther’s emotional paralysis. Jumping straight into intimacy doesn’t necessarily work – and anyway Tiffany seems to have a problem with that too. I think there might be a good potential experience if Tiffany suggested that Gunth needs to rethink his image, offering to shop with him – sweetly straightening out his collar and turning him around in the mirror. If Gunther likes his new look – maybe time for a good long hug…

Poor Tiff. Her only sense of self is what other people tell her. Unless someone wants to be with her, she views herself as worthless.

Anybody else hear Etta James singing “At Last” in their mind’s ear when they saw the last panel?

Many don’t like Jack because of his rough exterior, but he’s got more panache than Gunther!

Many times, a character says one thing, but somewhere along the way, it all goes different than the character’s dialogue, or expectations, or something happens different from what we expect/understand/perceive. That being said, is Tiffany going to:

A) Give Gunther some dating tutoring sessions

B) Go on an actual date with him

C) Somehow suddenly upgrade her ‘dating companion’ in the middle of the date

D) Get bitten or stung, and wind up covered in mud

E) Suddenly run into MacGyver, and help him fashion a makeshift battering ram, to free them from a locked restaurant, taken over by rabid and angry Dancing With The Stars fans

F) Get a new acting gig

G) Pay more attention to someone other than Gunther on the date

H) Get drafted into having to mop up something someone spills at the restaurant, and proceeds to shout: “Oh, come on !”

I) Be the 99th person to give Gunther some "chill"advice….

J) Upon seeing that the 100th person to give Gunther some “chill” advice actually gets a prize, Tiffany proceeds to yell: “Oh, come on !”

FINALLY! The sleeper awakens. I’ve been touting a Gunther/Tiffany hookup since the tutorial arcs. The comic landscape for this arrangement is classic!

In the final panel Tiffany looks just as enthusiastic about her date with Gunther as, well, anyone would be about a date with Gunther. I do hope, though, that Luann’s starting to date Jack means that Quill is finally out of the picture. It’s time for him to get his big break by landing an acting job in NYC, or Hawaii, or Spain, or Peru.

No ego in Tiff’s family….She has it all.

Tiffany. Superstar in her statements (compulsive lies?) to friends. Sad sack in reality. “The look on her face as she answers the door is a cold fire…” (paraphrased from a Rush song)

LUANN2112 Hit the Nail on the Head. Tiffany is upset that She didn’t get a HUGE Bunch of Roses.

But no Worries, Gunth. Just compliment Tiff during the meal, and let Her talk non stop, without interruption. And don’t forget to nod in agreement, frequently.

THEN, When You back to Her room, apply some MORE of that “Ant Bite” balm to Her legs.

Then, She’s Allllll Yours!

Um… why is it suddenly like none of the story arcs between Gunther and Tiffany from after high school ever happened?

It is curious to see that not long ago Tiffany wanted to enjoy Gunther’s company, but now that she is finally going out on a date with him she doesn’t look too lively.

So Gunther is trying to move out of the “friendzone”. Good luck, Gunth; it rarely happens.

Muni Uni looks like a pretty big place. It’s unfortunate that Tiff can’t find any boyfriends or even dates among all the male students there, and has to fall back on her high school frenemies for dates.

Gunth and Tiff: I wonder who asked who out.

They are both lucky girls.

Hmmm … micro-miniskirt for the little kids, pants for Gunther.

These panels could keep a psychology class going for the whole period. Jack has big flowers for Luann, Gunther has little ones for Tiffany……very sexual in a Freudian way. Jack and Luann are casual and happy with each other. Gunther is very formal and reserved and dressed in a restrictive, buttoned up grey suit (like his mother’s boyfriend). Tiff is dressed is a very sexy sweater, an invitation to get close. Gunther looks clueless and innocent. Tiffany looks disappointed, like Luann got the stud and she got the dud. How do they bridge this gap? I think that it has to be Tiffany telling Gunther that she’s had a rough day and encouraging him to give her a little comfort. Take his hand, sit on the couch, a little kiss of gratitude for his being there for her, and then let nature take its course.

What I don’t get is, at the beginning of their college year Tiffany seemed to like Gunther a lot. Did something happen to cool her off and cause her to digress to the high school air head she used to be?

Okay, so possible guesses for tomorrow. (HELP ME HERE. TODAY IS TOO BUSY FOR ME.). Jay suggested that maybe Tiffany and Gunther are having a practise date where she is teaching him how to date. Brd suggested that either Mrs. Berger is driving or even going along on the date like a chaperon. I think Dog suggested something but i forget what it was and can not find it. Sorry. I just can’t. Other suggestions? Oh, Airman suggested that Tiffany might sit Gunther down and loosen him up. What am i missing as guesses made for tomorrow? What new ones should be added to the mix? Please, make this easier; i will have even less time to look at comments tonight.

Tiff seems less than excited at the sight of Gunther dressed up as Little Mr. Gray, and with a rather forlorn-looking little bouquet in painful contrast to Jack’s big bunch of roses for Luann. But, still, this is a hopeful movement in the strip’s romantic dynamics (or not-so-dynamics, in Gunther’s case). Tiffany and Gunther “work” far better together than either one of them realizes beforehand….

Despite Greg’s reluctance to show a happy collection of characters, I hope that this time Gunther at least gets in the door. Remember a few months ago Bernice dumped him in her doorway? Give them a chance for some real bonding. I heard that Greg is no longer allowed at the Indianapolis Speedway, because he runs around letting the air out of all the tires.

Spoiler Alert: Ma Berger just may very well be waiting in the car.
