I never played the card game of Hearts with Dad; he plays it on his iPad. The only card game I know of that I play with him (and other people; family or acquaintances) is Uno.
I remember playing Rummy with my dad. Later, my friends and I played Hearts when we were in high school. The first couple years after I was married, I played Pinnoucle with several neighbors and my husband and I played Bridge with friends. Now, it’s Free Cell against the computer.
My dad never played cards. Once in awhile he’d toss a tennis ball with us, while he watched TV. We’d each be sitting in a different part of the room, and we played catch while he watched whatever. That was about it.
My dad and I would play cards all the time. Poker, Spades and mostly Gin Rummy. Loved those afternoons talking and playing cards with him. He has been gone 30 years now and I still remember that fondly.
My Dad’s favorite game was Cribbage. We played everyday. I still remember when my dad was on his death bed holding the TV remote flicking channels and mumbling 15-2, 15-4…….Happy Father’s Day Dad!
When I played “Hearts” in my youth, we didn’t call it the “queen”…if you get my drift! (I’d tell what we did call it, but this is a family strip site…)
I used to play with my parents a few hundred years ago…. wish I could play another game on a summer afternoon with them and my best friend from HS, but my parents are gone now, and the friend moved away … (occasional email, but haven’t seen in a few years)

I love Schulz’ nostalgic strips, like this one.

Will the bird finally be given a name tomorrow, as it was in 1970, when

ran the next day? Only those who control the rerun know for sure.

Winning hearts is far more important than winning at hearts.

Could it be that “dad” in the story in reality was Charles Schulz himself? It has the air of something being told from personal experience.

Why’s his dad feeling sad for something happy (having some sadness, but still happy)?

CB’s dad can talk? I thought the grown ups just made that wah-wah noise.

We played a lot of “Crazy Eights” when we were kids, and Cribbage when we were teens. Now we play Phase 10 and act like kids.

Back in the days of only 3 channels on the TV there was plenty of time for cards and other games.
