We live in a small town so the post office is never a problem. We go to the DMV in another small town about 45 min away from us – no waiting. We could go to the DMV in the bigger city and wait 2-3 hours – we did that when we first moved here – no fun!
@Tony:The post offices in my town aren’t too bad. There’s two that I use, one usually has no wait. The main one downtown may have a 5-10 min wait. I go to whichever one I’m closest to at the moment. There used to be a long wait at the DMV I used to go to, the one I go to now on a different side of town is much faster.

I missed everyone at church because I couldn’t move fast enough this morning and I missed you when you didn’t post.
My DMV is a pleasure. You go in, push a button on a small box to tell it why you are there (multiple categories) and you get a number. Within 3-5 minutes or less a sign lights up with your number and the window number to go to. And, the people behind the windows are actually very nice. It wasn’t that good 20 years ago, though. Big improvements.
Try to do as much DMV as possible on line (things like registration). Can even do license renewals sometimes. I get the registration for the max possible (3 years). Post office once a year when I send off the package of Christmas goodies to my cousins in FL. Get one of the flat rate boxes so no weighing, just swipe the credit card and done.

Post Office or DMV?

Neither Tony nor Peter have heard of the innerwebz?
Yeah, yeah… can’t mail a package unless you send so many you have a postage meter and pick-up service …
and you have to visit the actual DMV if it’s time for a new picture or a test.
The rest can be done online…
I can also do the car stuff at AAA, or take parcels to the UPS store up the street (which is a bit pricier, though) .
At least the lines at both are much shorter.

Car registration; once a year, take a number and wait a little while. Post office; maybe once every two years, no big line ups.

The people at the post office are much nicer than the folks at the DMV.

Our state DMV allows you to make an appointment on line. I hae not had to do it yet, however, I hear that it actually works to do so.

I haven’t been to the DMV in years. I do it all online. And I only go to the post office when I can’t do it online, which is a rare occurrence.
